Another doctor, a new prefix

Tomorrow is yet another doctor appointment, another drive into Children’s Hospital, another day spent mostly in the waiting room.

On Monday, it was the endocrinologist. A1C 7.2, coming down, exactly as I wasn't expecting. :)

Two weeks ago, it was the general pediatrician.

And three weeks before that, it was the minute clinic for the infected site. (These two didn't include a trip to Children's.)

Three months before that, the nephrologist.

But tomorrow is a new doctor, a new term before the suffix -logy. But this time, unlike the first visit to the endocrinologist in the hospital, I know what the term means. Cardio means heart.

At the minute clinic appointment, an appointment that I thought would be 10 minutes- check, antibiotics, out- it turned out that the doctor found a heart murmur. A possibility of nothing, a possibility of something.

And then three weeks later, the pediatrician found it. If there's any difference, she called it an irregularity.

This all is strange, because as a little kid, even now sometimes, I have gotten up in the middle of the night, or sometime during the day, and told my mom my heart felt funny. Fluttery. Weird. My old pediatrician basically said that some kids feel their heartbeat more than others.

So off to another specialist, a different waiting room, maybe a different view out the windows of the parking lot construction in front of Children's.

It could be nothing, it could be something, I'm not sure what to think.

Other than that, life has been pretty good since school started. Missing everyone at Camp Needlepoint, writing research papers, getting 2nd chair in a higher level orchestra (eek! :), spending Saturdays at orchestra for three hours and quartet rehearsal for 2 hours, everything's good! Diabetes is kind of just there, which is good- blood sugars are pretty stable most of the time, pump is working, and I haven't gone low in forever.

My doctors said I had a heart murmur for years. Then they said it was gone. My mother has one. My son has one. So I know what you mean by “it could be nothing, it could be something.”

And congrats on 2nd chair in the orchestra!

I have a heart murmur. Sometimes my docs hear it & sometimes they don’t. Does it come & go, or do some doctors have better hearing:) I hope yours is nothing.

Know you feel about all the doctor appointments. Gets old, doesn’t it?

Woo-hoo, second chair. Wonderful!

Phew! The cardiologist only heard it a few times, which deemed it just an irregular heartbeat to keep an eye on! It was pretty funny, the nurse who was helping out was one that I’ve had at the nephrologist a few times before, so when she heard that I wasn’t needing to go back to the nephrologist OR the cardiologist, she asked that I come visit!

Thanks for the congrats! I was only hoping to get into the orchestra, so to get 2nd chair was amazing for me!

They’ve been keeping an eye (ear?) on mine for years. I never get it a second thought.

Bet that nurse will miss seeing your beautiful face.

When you’re famous, we can all say we knew you when.
