I can’t agree with your “530 worse screen outdoor sun”. The 530 excels in bright light and is lousy in dim light.
tomorrow I’m getting a demo of the t:slim from the local rep.
@Dave44 - I would be very interested in your impressions of both how well the Rep presents the pump as well as your thoughts on the pump itself. Which certainly could be entirely different from each other.
I’ll give my impressions following the presentation, Tim. What I have to do is wrap my head around some of the things that I KNOW I’m going to be aggravated by, and see if the good features outweight the bad. That is what it will come down to, as there is no way I won’t forever be annoyed by the negatives of this pump. There are few products I own that don’t have some annoyances, although I know of a few that are perfect for my use, such as our Bosch dishwasher, for example. that thing cleans remarkably well, is easy to use, is quiet, is easy to load. We’ve had 6 dishwashers and I’m kicking myself for not having bought it sooner. But most things involve compromise and thats what I’ll wrestle with re: the next pump.
BTW, I can return the t:slim within 30 days, if I want to go back to Medtronic.
Dave, Be sure to read the fine print on that one very carefully.
I really like the Tandem but the return policy is not one of its strongest selling points IMHO.
BTW - One very minor point on the case for the pump. We simply purchased a case for the pump that we liked better and never gave another thought to whatever was included in the original pump shipping box.
what’s wrong with the policy?
thx, but I like glancing at my pump (and my receiver) each clipped to opposite sides of my waistband. therefore I don’t use any types of cases that obscure the screens & controls.
Dave, I don’t want to paraphrase. I believe this link is the current policy.
Tandem could resolve so many complaints about the pigtail if they would simply lengthen it about 6". Have u ever spoken to them about that? Seems like such a simple solution. If it were longer, it would be easily tucked into one’s waistband. Or am I missing something?
that policy aligns with what the rep told me.
I have spoken with Tandem on other aspects but this (pigtail) is something that I only hear from current users of Medtronic who are considering changing over or who have only recently changed over. For us, this is a complete non-issue - based strictly on personal experience we would be totally unaware this was even something of any sort of concern for anybody.
Certainly the reality is everybody will have their own list of priorities and being able to make a free and informed choice is great.
Well, the pigtail seems to be one of the top 3 complaints about the pump, from all sorts of sources. I won’t know how it impacts the tubing situation until I wear it for a while. Youtubers, bloggers, people on various forums, FB groups, wherever–the pigtail seems to be a top annoyance.
Good Luck.
(no sarcasm BTW - I really hope this works out great for you.)
At the risk of repeating, I do caution again in regards to the return policy.
Hopefully you are able to get the information you need to make the most informed choice which will work the best for you.
I even asked about cost to return the pump. She said they provide a shipping label. Opened boxes of supplies can NOT be returned. Furthermore, she said that they back out the charges to the insurance for the entire transaction–THAT is something I’d want to firm up with their legal department or someone at either Medicare or my supplemental insurance. As long as I’m not on the hook for opened supplies, the return policy sounds better than what I faced at Medtronic when I returned their awful Sof Sensor system. I was stuck with 20% of the cost of the supplies. My current insurance has no copays or deductible so that shouldn’t be a factor.
I have used the 530 (6 years), the 630 (1 year). And the 670G (9 months). In addition to the differences mentioned above, the 670G anticipates going low and suspends infusion of insulin prior to going below the programmed low point. The 670G, in combination with the Guardian Sensor, adjusts the Basal amount (micro blouses) based on detected BGs and not set basal rates.
Theoretically, if you start to go high in the middle of the night, the first increased micro blouses will prevent you from going hyperglycemia.
thanks for the reply Don. I’ve heard from a fair number of folks that the 670 in auto mode has failed to reduce high-bg’s in a reasonable time. They say they drop out of Auto Mode to take care of the highs and then go back into it. Sounds like yet another corporate butt-protecting feature, eh?
It is not necessary to drop out of auto mode if highs are not reduced timely. I go to Reservoir and tubing, fill cannula and set an appropriate fill amount and use it as a correction bolus.
creative. I wonder if 670 users are going to emulate your solution, upon reading this (rhetorical question)?
Dave, I admit it is a matter of opinion. For me the 530g was difficult to read in direct sunlight. But I am an old fart.
I am a Medtronic ambassador. My opinions are my own. They did not pay me to say nice things. OK, they sent me a shirt and a cup but even I am more expensive than that.
