Hi Natalie
I have it working on my iMac - I use VMWare Fusion and run Win7 with the Studio SW loaded on it.
But - the USB driver for the G4 will not work on my iMac (although the 7 seems too), thus you need to download the data using a PC then move it across to you iMac, every time you want to download data to the tool.
Chas
There is another company Diasend who claim to support iMac's and Dexcom, but they charge a monthly fee (£10 - $15 ?) for the privilege, if you don't use a pump that it comes free with. Also this Diasend Dexcom interface is only available for CGM users in Sweden at the moment, although it may be available to clinicians.
Interesting! That driver issue is a hassle hub? I finally gave up and downloaded the software to this old windows pc my dad hauled out of the trash… The same one we use for her pod sync, so we will just have a “diabetes computer” for just those two applications…
Me too - its a pain in the neck.
Doc, you have been given good advice. BTW, for the Diasend issue, Animas does pay Diasend for its pumpers.
I have heard from another group that the Dexcom studio sw and USB for the G4 works with a Mac running windows via Bootcamp. I have nt tried this yet but there were a number of users claiming that this does work.
I have a mac, and didn't want to partition it, ( i'm not that great with computers),,, so ... because my sewing software will also not run on my mac... I went out and bought another laptop just for that reason... just a cheaper HP... but it came with windows 8... and guess what, after two nights of trying I finally read the fine print that says it is not compatible. What's a non-geek to do? My endo does not even down load meters in his office, much less a cgm. HELP! Anyone?
So I have a ping, and a mac. Does that mean there is a program I can get to make it work? Not a geek... ?? Can you translate?
Hi Carolyn.
You have two options.
a) wait till Dexcom supports Win8
or
b) put Win7 onto your new PC.
Having run into an issue myself I know what the problem is. (But my problem isn't what yours is...)
Apparently the Studio software runs on the Microsoft.NET framework. Windows abandoned the .NET framework in ver 8 which has gotten the ire of many developers. Additionally, Macs cannot run in a .NET framework unless you have Bootcamp or other such software like Parallels to run Windows on your Mac.
FWIW, my issue turned out to be a bad cable. After many hours on the phone with support, escalating to the lead techs, they thought it was a driver issue. I am not a geek, but do know a bit about troubleshooting computers myselfI and even asked several times if the cable could be the problem. I was told there was no way if the cable would charge the receiver that it would be the problem (the software was not recognizing my receiver.) Well guess what? They were wrong. My SIL confirmed that it is possible, and when I found another USB to Micro USB cable and tried it, it worked. So much for tech support.
And as Chas says below, either load Win7 on your PC or get Parallels or Bootcamp for you Mac. Waiting for DexCom is a futile effort.
I own a five year old MacBook. When I started on the Dex 7+ in 2009, I bought a Netbook PC for about $300. I didn't want to struggle with getting the software to run on my Mac and I also feared that some of the workarounds would harm the functionality of my Mac. I had no problem installing and running the G4 Studio software. I use that program almost every day.
I don't like dealing with the minutia of computer operation. I'd rather use my time enjoying the benefits that a working computer can give. Just a thought.
