hi guys new on here and am having some serious health issues.my body aches all over, left and right side in the pelvic area, bad ache in upper back and neck both sides .tiredness even after a good nights sleep, muscles spasms all over the upper body, buttocks.restless legs.ive seen my doc says its peripheral neuropathy!!! i googled my symptoms and says fybromyalgia.i was diagnosed with type 1 at the age of 7 and now 42 blood glucose levels are excellent so i was wondering if any one else had the same symptoms as me whoops forgot about pain in both shoulders too.
Also was sent for a mri scan and they foundt i had 4 collapsed vertebraes on my spine said that was due to diabetes too
thx for getting in touch with me rainbow ,first of all can u plz tell me how u come about getting fybromyalgia was it through an accident ? the reason im asking is because back in 2007 i had a lifting accident and all my syptoms have been getting worse since the accident ,my own doctor was a bit nieve about it when i told him i think i have fybromyalgia but is sending me to see rheaumotologist on june 27th another doc to add to my list lol .Much apreciate your help thx Andy.
Hi, I have FM and Lupus since about 1989.
Did you always have really good glucose levels? How active are you (exercise)? It’s so easy for doctors to say - oh this is caused by diabetes, when other causes are possible.
Fibromyalgia is determined by a physical examination, symptoms and medical history. No blood test for it, as far as I know. Some rheumatologists don’t recognise it as a disease, some do. Your rheumatologist can determine what’s going on with you. It would be very hard to say just on some symptoms. A full history needs to be taken and a physical exam. Also some blood tests to rule out other autoimmunme conditions eg Lupus or another arthritis.
Hope you find out what’s wrong.
andy, Judith here has fibro - she is a dear person. I know there are others too. If you need help with searching the forums and groups for others afflicted with this terribly misunderstood disease, give me a holler. It’s bad enough to have the d, but constant pain is so depressing.
You should get other autoimmune stuff ruled out since t1s are at risk for developing other autoimmune issues. I had similar symptoms to yours and I was diagnosed with myositis and sarcoidosis this year. Have your doc run blood panels to see if your muscle enzymes are high, this will give them a place to start in figuring out what is going on. A good thing is that if you do have another autoimmune disorder is there are decent treatments for them. I now feel back to normal with my meds but at one point I could barely walk I was so weak. They wanted to give me a handicapped tag for my car I was so bad.
I find they always blame my diabetes for anything that happens to me, hahaha!
thx for the reply Suzanne hopefully ill get all these tests done with some results hopefully .the only docs ive seen at the mo are my local gp and a orthopedic doctor who said it was all to do with my diabetes so he sent me to a physio who said theres something more wrong with me than neuropathy so ill just wait and see thx anyway
Andy
ok i might of been a bit of a bugger keeping my glucose levels under control when i was younger but not over the top . I go to diabetic clinic 1ce a year because im well controlled and my own diabetic speciliast says its not peripheral neuropathy like the orthopedic said.i use to be ever so fit b4 i a accident at work in the constrution industry back in 2007 and ive never worked since because some days the condition is so disabling.i try to go out on byke rides most days but thats a pain in the ■■■ getting on and off my byke with the pain in my hips wondering wether to buy a ladies byke with out a cross bar to climb over lol
omg Susi just been reading about Lupus id never heard of it b4 u mentioned it .my symptoms sound like those mentioned on the site i was on … Hope im not becoming a hypocondriak lol i think thats how u spell it
Try to see if you can go to a rheumatologist. They will take you seriously. Heck, my rheumatologist even sent me to a neurologist for tests to rule out neuropathy because my muscle enzymes were through the roof and that doesn’t happen with neuropathy. He wanted to know everything he could to treat me correctly. Turns out I do have the beginnings of neuropathy but I am showing no symptoms yet so the neurologist let the rheumatologist know he had to keep looking for reasons for my symptoms. It was a long process (almost 2 years) but it was worth it to get an answer and finally to feel good again. You deserve to feel as good as you can so work within your insurance rules to get the care you deserve! Hang in there
If you had a back injury, that is going to complicate things as you can have pinched nerves and your muscles respond to pain by having spasms. You can have neuropathy too. I have focal neuropathy on my rib cage and the pain is intense…my neck and rib cage muscles tighten to the point where I get hoarse and I can’t breath well. It took them a while to diagnose me. Acupuncture has helped with the tightness in the neck and shoulders. I also take Neurontin (300-1,200mg). and 800mg of Motrin. You could have polyneuropathies (as I do) which are neuropathies in various parts of your body. Personally, I cannot function without the neurontin…otherwise, the pain kicks in. The key thing is to focus on controlling the pain so you can get some rest.
I do agree that you should be tested for lupus and for rheumatoid arthritis. You should also have a nerve conduction test. I also read something about inflammation and diabetes, and connective tissue disorders associated with D.
Hope this helps.
