I’m 49 and T2. After 4 years on a continous low-dose pill, I went off the pill recently. Within a day, my average bg readings decreased by 20 points. This has been steady for two weeks now.
Any similar experiences?
I’m not sure why noone has replied to this. This is a major issue I have with bc pills as well. I’m 41 and frankly as I get older the fear of horrible complications really frightens me. I also notice that I have to pump more insulin into my body while on the pill. I was on a regular type (1 week of placebos) and into the 3rd day of placebos I would consistently wake up with lows. My Dr. switched me to Yaz which is only 4 days of placebos so I didn’t really have that issue BUT Yaz is know to cause clots and stroke. I can’t handle the possibility of additional health concerns.
Not sure what to do at this point.
The lower blood glucose levels have continued for months. I had to lower one of my meds because I was getting lows. I can (almost) get target levels on just metformin.
Additionally since getting off the bc pill, I feel that my apetite is more controllable and I have been slowly losing weight without much change in habits.
Niz Roxanne–my boyfriend has gotten used to using condoms over the past few months!
Hi Deborah, I was not on the pill but on the NuvaRing for years and two weeks after stopping it I had constant lows! I had to lower all my basals and I:C ratios. My endo said that is normal because the decrease in hormones.
It's actually very common to need slightly MORE insulin when you GO ONTO the pill. So going off of it and having more blood sugars simply implies that you've removed that hormone supply, and therefore removed something that add slightly insulin resistance....and therefore you don't need as much insulin. Reduce your basals if it's a problem, or enjoy the lower BGs if they're helping you keep everything in range!
