I inserted my first Dexcom sensor yesterday. I noticed some blood under the sensor pod after insertion. Does anyone know if drawing a bit of blood during sensor insertion has any effect on the sensor accuracy. So far, the sensor seems to be functioning fine. Thanks.
I never noticed blood when inserting a sensor, but if it ain’t broke… Congrats on the Dexcom, wouldn’t be without mine!
It didnt effect mine at all
Blood at insertion is not a problem with Dexcom. It will kill a Medtronic sensor.
Congrats #2 on your choice of Dexcom. You have the top of the line.
I have had a couple of bleeders with insertions of my Dex, two soaked the white tape pretty good (and really pretty bruises after I pulled them out!). The first bleeder did give me trouble the first day and into the second, I called Dex support then to double check and decided to leave it in (they were willing to replace it), and got near full 2 weeks with good numbers. The second time I just “ignored” the blood, and had good readings. So like jrtpup said “if it ain’t broke…” I would call Dex if by the second/third day the numbers are not calibrating good or if you are getting the ??? or other error messages to see if a replacement sensor would be indicated.
