I was wondering if anyone has experience with the CGM and swimming for 30-60 minutes? We’re new to the CGM and although I cover with IV3000, I find that water still somehow seeps under the adhesive. I usually do quick baths to prevent it from getting too soggy, but am concerned about swim lessons this summer when my daughter will be in the water for 30-60 minutes. I’d appreciate any tips or advice!
Which CGM do you have? We don’t have one, but my son wears the Omnipod, and that adhesive does okay even after it gets very wet. I think it might be slightly looser while wet, but once it’s dry it’s fine again. He has swum for a long time before and not had any problems.

She has the Medtronic CGM…the adhesive usually is ok but the adhesive tape over it is not. I’m concerned that for long periods of swimming, the tape would get soggy, fall off and possibly the transmitter as well. The transmitter is waterproof as long as it’s connected, but I think if it comes off, the inside could get wet and ruin it.

We are getting a dexcom in a few days for my son. I am also interested in this subject, I have a question about infusion sets and swimming already posted the information may be much the same for either product. Let me know of any special tricks you learn about keeping either on in the water for long periods of time. We are only a month into the pump and anticipating our cgm.
The CGM is fine in the water, as long as the transmitter is fully snapped onto the sensor. In our experience, though, the IV3000 is worthless in the water. We’ve switched to Tegaderm, and it works great.

We have just received our dexcom and have some tegaderm that we got with pump. Exactly how do you apply the tegaderm in order for it to work well with your dexcom sensor?
My dd doesn’t have a Dexcom, but the principle should be the same: Once the sensor is in place, just place the Tegaderm over the whole thing, and press it down so it seals on all sides. It’s kind of a tight fit, so my dh likes to use two pieces, overlapping. IIRC, the Dexcom sensor is bigger than the MM (which is what we have), so you might want to try two pieces. Many people will wipe the area around the sensor with IVPrep and let it dry to a tacky consistency before putting on the Tegaderm, but dd was getting skin irritation so we stopped; it holds on just fine without it.

i WEAR the dexcom seven. have a pool- no problems with up to one hour of swimming. but I am an adult.
I'd guess some tegraderm or tape would be added insurance.
used to wear the minimed sensor. the dex com tape is WAY WAY stronger.
An update: we switched to Dexcom 7+ and love it! The adhesive is much stronger, and lasts most of the 7 days. I put some tape on it when it's getting iffy.
