Colorful Thoughts

Summer solstice has not yet arrived, but it seems like mid-summer here in Ohio, hot and sparkly with bright colors in evidence everywhere in nature. (Well, except for our nuisance Raccoons.) Still I'm thinking ahead to my autumn celebrations, the time of muted colors. First will be my 82nd birthday, then my husband and I will celebrate our 59th wedding anniversary. Of course I will also take note of my 19th diaversary on November 22, 1993. Yes, I was diagnosed at the age of 63 -- first as a Type 2, later as Type 1, and needing insulin immediately.

A few of my friends here on TuDiabetes are aware of my age, but kindly haven't mentioned my "secret". I didn't want to be preoccupied by my age as I wrote here, so I originally decided not to mention it. I also feared that my words would be ignored because of it -- ageism. Since I joined TuD in March, 2010, most people have already decided whether or not to read my words, so I decided that it's time to just say it: Wow! I'm almost 82!

Congratulations Trudy, you are 10 years more mature than me. Have a great birthday day.

Trudy, you are truly an amazing lady. Personally, I have many of your words without knowing your age. But, at least in my case, I don't think your age would have entered into the picture. I was taught, and have learned, that knowledge can be obtained from anyone. Especially with something like D where we are all different and we never know when we will find something that works.

My wife and I both love the fall weather. It is a bit different here in Mississippi. Not as much color and we do miss that.

Keep writing cause I will keep reading.

Hi Trudy, Happy Birthday in advance!!!! It's not very colourful here either.... a dull day in Ontario. Here's hoping for colourful days right through the Autumn. Cheers! Joanne

Hi Pastelpainter, very nice turn of phrase! Thanks.

Hi Sparky, thanks again for your encouragement. It's so doggone hot here right now, I'm almost looking forward to autumn cool colors.

Hi Joanne. Thanks, hope it brightens up a bit there, just in time for your vacation.

Hi Trudy. A bright day here today. :) Not only is 82 a great feat in itself but... 59 years of married bliss??? You deserve an award! Cheers! Joanne

Hi Joanne, how to answer your comment? Yes, almost 59 years of married bliss...

It's been a wonderful way for both of us to live our lives. About awards -- interacting with our descendents has been a great, ongoing award. We have children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. we also have mutual hobbies, such as sharing our lives with dogs, which is great fun.

On a realistic note, while we live a happy life, we take it one day at a time.

Hi Trudy, I haven't been online much lately and Joanne pointed this out to me (thanks Joanne!). You know how I feel about age - I could care less. I have a younger friend that did the very thing on another board because she thought people would not take her seriously.

Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary! Not too many people make it that far in their marriages these days. Taking it one day at a time is the best way to go.

Thanks so much. Another year has passed and I'm still feeling very fortunate.
