Congratulations

I am so happy that all of you younger people with Type 1 "D" are so well informed. It's amazing how this internet has changed the face of diabetes knowledge. When I first started working with young people with "D" many years ago I was saddened by the lack of knowledge most kids and their parents had. Today it is so different.

I can assure you that there will be even more remarkable developments in diabetes care in the next few years. I know this for fact as in 2001 I was insulin independent for two years with an islet cell transplant. It failed when I had to go off the drug therapy but several others at the Diabetes Research Institute are still making their own insulin. Hang in there, take good care of yourself and the time will come when you will be making your own insulin again.

i'm so happy to hear such great news. we should never give up hope.
