Okay I’ve only been on my pump for about nine days now and I’ve decided: I suck at counting carbs. Why didn’t I ever notice this before?? Maybe because I’ve never tested so much in my life. Anyone have any good recommendations for carb counting books? Thanks!
Calorie King is good and portable. If you have a PDA you can download a free database from the USDA website. If you have an iPhone there are a couple of good applications that hold a database of nutritional information.
Some “rules of thumb”
One teaspoon = the end of your thumb
One ounce = a full thumb
One cup = one fist (exception - cooked rice, one fist is about 1/2 cup)
1/2 cup = your cupped hand.
Your palm or deck of cards = 3 ounces of meat
Calorie King is great & there are also on-line carb counters. I have an EatSmart scale that’s wonderful, not that you can carry this around:) But it’s helped me when I cook & from using it I’ve gotten better at eye-balling food when I’m out.
