Dance Out Diabetes - Survey & chance to win $100 Visa card

We just received this from a fellow nonprofit group:

Dear Diabetes Community,
Have you ever helped to start a revolution?
Dance Out Diabetes is a new San Francisco-based, 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization (soon to be virtual for all communities) designed to help prevent and manage diabetes. Founded by Theresa Garnero, Registered Nurse, Certified Diabetes Educator and one of the nation’s preeminent authorities on diabetes, and developed by a stellar panel of medical professionals along with people living with diabetes, Dance Out Diabetes will offer ongoing programs that focus on dance, nutrition, support and fun. We need your help in figuring out the best way to structure it.
Please take our survey. We need your opinions. In return, you'll become an inaugural member of Dance Out Diabetes and will be entered to win a $100 Visa card. Just be sure to complete by September 21st!

I took the survey for the heck of it and had a couple observations: It seemed to be more geared to Type 2’s for whom exercise may form the center of their treatment program than to type 1’s. It also had some questions that I found were a bit like “have you stopped beating your wife”! Like “Do you follow your doctor’s program for diet and exercise.” I don’t receive diet and exercise advice from my doctor. I also found it very confusing as to whether this organization is proposing social networking through dance or a program of exercise for diabetes.

Hi Zoe,
I am Theresa, the Founder of Dance Out Diabetes. Thanks for your insight. I can assure you this is a dance program for people with or at risk for the disease (regardless of type), their friends and family. I am very sensitive to the typical disenfranchisement of type 1s and built this organization to be inclusive. We have type 1s on our Board of Directors (check out our Facebook page to see our full board) who also help to keep it real. We also have people with type 2 and at risk individuals on the board who wanted to ask the question about exercise to get a sense of just how many follow an exercise program. Perhaps we asked the wrong question - did your doctor give you an exercise plan?! Several people with type 1 will be at the event, including volunteers.
We are offering a social networking opportunity as it relates to diabetes and dance - a small part of the program (much like what you see here on tudiabetes), since not everyone lives in S.F.
I hope you will be able to join us in using the positive energy of dance in a supportive environment to have some fun and see how it impacts your diabetes. All the best!
