Dexcom G5 iOS App - silent

Hello,

is there any way to switch the Dexcom G5 iPhone App completely to silent mode ?
I want (in some situations) to switch the whole phone including the Dexcom G5 App to silent mode.
Including the ‘urgent low’ and all other alarms.

I think all audible alerts can be silenced with the exception of the urgent low. I don’t think you can turn that one off, but you can avoid the audible alert if you recognize the silent one first. If you miss it, then dexcom will sound.

I’m a caregiver, not a direct user, so I have this info second hand. I defer to users to confirm/deny.

The best workaround I’ve found for that, since they’ve disabled the ability to do it easily (grrrrr), is to put headphones in the headphone jack. You can also buy or use some cheap/old ones, cut them off just above the part that sticks into the jack, and voila, mini phone silencer. Doesn’t work for overnight if you also use your phone as a wakeup alarm though.

Creative!

Lorraine is correct. They can all be turned off except Urgent Low. There is not even an option to turn urgent low to vibrate–a problem in many situations.

Neat idea, unless you have an iPhone 7 where there is no more headphone jack!

Could someone please tell me the exact steps required to set all Dexcom alerts (other than urgent low) from audible to vibrate on iPhone 7? I ask because I’m in Canada where they just released the version of the Dexcom app that’s been in the US for many months and I need to decide whether to update. I won’t be able to roll back the version if I do update since it’s a work phone and that functionality is disabled. So I need to be sure that the process to go from audible to vibrate and back is not too cumbersome and worth it to gain the lock screen BG value.

Thanks

It’s an ugly solution which few like but certainly works: get a Lightning port dongle. You won’t need headphones. Personally, I just use the silent all but Urgent Low which is easily done in the settings of the Dexcom app. I find (the two times it has happened) other patrons to be very understanding. I also sit on the aisle  in some cases I’ve had to enlist the help of an usher who can assist if required seating is not available. Again, rarely happens.

Go for the seven. I like it much more than the sixes. Much better functionality and audio quality is far better through a lightening connector than the 3.5 mm jacks.
