Dexcom G7 Geofencing No Impact on Tandem Mobi Pump

Does anyone know the Dexcom G7 Geofencing issue impact the use of Tandem Mobi Pump and APP?

I am planning to have an international trip soon. The Dexcom G7 Geofencing issue is a little bit of concern, just in case if it impacts the Mobi pump operations and APP. I feel that it should not have any impact at all. I would like to hear different opinions if any.

I understand that Mobi pump receives signal directly from G7. It then communicates to Mobi APP at iPhone. You can start/replace a G7 directly from Mobi APP. Dexcom G7 APP is not required.

In case, iPhone is lost or placed 20 feet away, the Mobi pump when placed on the charging pad will send “pairing” request to Mobi APP installed in any iPhone nearby. You can then pair it from a different iPhone.

What do you mean by Dexcom G7 geofencing issue? I do not think Dexcom G7 is limited by your location, it would be absurd. That would prevent people from travelling. I am also on Mobi and Dexcom G7 and sometimes G6. I have not travelled with Dexcom G7 yet though. Has anyone ever had any issues with a dexcom G7 non-functioning abroad?

Heres a brief summary of the G7 geofencing problem.

I have traveled with both the G6 and G7, they work fine outside the US. But the same sensors aren’t necessarily available in other countries (I was able to buy a G6 sensor in the UK several years ago. No insurance coverage, but much less expensive than any sensor I ever received in the US). You may also be unable to update the app when “overseas”, though I haven’t attempted this. I also don’t know if Dexcom will replace a sensor that fails in another country.

I know that Tandem blocks app updates while in Canada, ostensibly because of the customary use of different units to measure blood glucose. My pump, however, continued to work fine and didn’t suffer from any confusion.

That doesn’t sound like a G7 problem/feature, but an app store problem. On both Android and iOS, availability and compatability may vary region to region, usually to comply with local laws and regulations.

I have been traveling w my mobi and g7. I have tsa precheck so I think they turn down the metal detectors but I’m not really sure.

I went through many times and no alarms. Since I stick my pump to my body, it’s not visible at all.
No more frisks and no chem swabs either I just go through same as everyone else. I think I’ve gone 8 flights this way. Last time I traveled internationally, I had my Tslim and that will always alarm, so I need to see what happens on an international flight

I don’t think the Mobi has enough metal to set off any metal detector. If you have you go through a body scanner, presumably they’ll see the pump under your clothes. Pre-check often means you’re in a metal detector line instead of a scanner line (presumably because it’s a bit quicker to walk through than being scanned).

Correct I have not been in a scanner yet since I switched to Mobi.
But often that scanner would miss my tslim and my dex G6.
They would alarm half the time, but I would keep my tslim in my hand so I was always pulled out for swabbing.
I keep my mobi often attached to my side just below my waist, so I really don’t want to have to show anyone that in line at TSA, but I use short tubing most of the time and this means disconnecting, and I don’t want to do that.
I don’t even disconnect for the shower.
About 20 years back I disconnected and put my pump through the x ray. This is before they were warning us against this.
So I got it back and connected.
During my flight, my pump died. It was a Medtronic Revel pump.
It’s was on, and operating, but would not pump insulin. And then later that night I got an infection at the site.
After that day I refuse to remove my pump at security or anyplace unless I’m changing my set.
Medtronic told me to not put it in X-rays anymore and replaced the pump.
Dealing with the pump is easy because I switched to injections for a few days, the infection is a different story because I needed to go to the ER since I was away from home.
Anyway, I’m really happy to be able to just pass through security with no issues or questions. It’s like being a non diabetic kid again.

Do you cover or encase the Mobi with anything to protect it from the water or is that basically unnecessary?

The lack of a charging port would seem to make the Mobi fairly waterproof but then it seems like water could seep in where the button is and they tell you to take it off to shower.

I don’t worry about it. It seems to be quite water resistant. I don’t cover it. I have not tried to swim with it though. It says water resistant up to 2 hours. I would be interested to see if anyone has tried to swim with it, but it is small enough to cover with waterproof cover if you wanted to
