Dexcom RECEIVER question

basic question, I know….but I’m generally not a tech person. There’s been lots of discussion about the differences between the G4 and G5 transmitters, but are the receivers essentially the same?

Sarah, The receiver is basically the same from the end user perspective, but there are technical differences that become important if you are trying to do something other than just receive the CGM signal and view it. For instance if you are trying to view the results on your phone, or an electronic watch, there are important differences. What is your use case?

I wanted to know because I seem to be preferring the g4 to the g5 - I tried the g5 and didn’t like having to have my phone physically with me all the time. So – when it’s time to buy a new receiver, which it will be soon……it’s the same receiver for either transmitter?

thanks.

I use the G5 and carry my G5 receiver with me almost all of the time. I almost never use my telephone as a receiver. As a prior G4 user, it is functionally the same thing.

Sarah, Unfortunately, the G4 and G5 receiver are different, so if you switch to the G4 you will need a new receiver. But if you want the signal to go to just the receiver then either will work just fine for you as long as you have the correct receiver for the type of transmitter you have. Also if you go to the G4, the transmitter battery should last longer than the G5 transmitters.
