Different infusion sets while pregnant?

I’m on the Minimed Paradigm pump, and have been using the Quickset with the 5(6?)mm cannula. I just got a call from Minimed informing me that they’ve just shipped a bunch with the 9mm cannula. I assume my endo, who is seeing me every 2 weeks now that I’m pregnant, called in a new prescription.

Did you pump-users change infusion sets while pregnant? I’m fairly lean, though have put on ~5 lbs (am 12.5 weeks). Inserting the shorter cannula already sometimes hurts; I’m scared of 9mm!

I switched to the silhouette, which has a longer needle, but goes in at an angle. It has a scary “harpoon-like” device to insert it, but I find that is scarier than just squeezing the area and just inserting it manually. I switched to the silhouette before I was pregnant because I was pretty lean too and would get bent cannulas all the time, disrupting the insulin delivery, and haven’t had that problem with the silhouette.

I’m 29 weeks along now, still using the silhouette, and doing well. good luck!

I used Quicksets with the shorter canula all the way through my first pregnancy with no problems. Since, I’ve switched to Silhouettes, but I am planning on using both for my current pregnancy (I am only 7 weeks). I feel like the straight insertion of the Quickset is much more consistent than the Silhouettes and I had no problem with the short needles or shallow delivery under the skin. I’m tall and of average weight. Good luck!

I also use the Minimed Paradigm pump and used it throughout my pregnancy. Before the pregnancy, I switched to Sure-T infusion sets (with a metal cannula). I wanted to make the switch anyway, but my endo also thought it was a good idea in order to avoid the problem of kinked cannulas during the pregnancy. I really like to the Sure-T and find it to be the most comfortable. I also like that I can reinsert the infusion set – so that if I was ever unsure if a high was due to a bad infusion site or not, I would move the infusion set immediately and did not need to insert a new one (since the cannula is metal, it can be removed and reinserted and just taped down).

Thankfully I had NO pump or infusion set related highs during my pregnancy!!

I used the Silhouette for years and always inserted manually as well. I also preferred it to the Quick Set (I also got bent cannulas, but only with the 9mm cannula – not with the 6mm), but I like the Sure T better than either of the other two.

I am not pregnant yet but I have used both the 6mm and 9mm and have had no problems with either one. I dont notice any difference at all when I insert either one. Dont be scared!
