Do you use an inserter? How long do they last? Do you have a backup?

I’ve been pumping since 2002, and have always used the quickserter. If I recall correctly, the one I used the most often was replaced once; the other one is in my travel bag, and doesn’t get as much use. I would guess the main serter I use is at least 4 years old.

I use both silhouette and quicksets for the medtronic 515. After trying both, I liked each for different reasons so I decided to use both kinds. However, the silhouette insterter was a scary thing! It’s very awkward and makes a terrible sound. Makes me think of a torture device. lol. I prefer to do it manually and that is the kind of set I keep in my purse for a back up in I have pump issues and having it has saved me a few times now. That way no matter what happends I am not depending on an inserter because I can do it manually. For the quickset, I use the inserter but hate to have to depend on it. It funny when I order, the person always asks if the order is correct because most people use only one type of set.

The Roche Link assist is good, had mine for ages and its easy and strong. Makes it painless too. They replace it no problem, I got mine the next working day when I lost it.

In have one for the animas ping. I used it every time for about a year but I’ve recently started injecting it manually. it’s still in awesome condition though.

yes i use an inserter & it's as old as my pump.older.11years & works fine

i also have 2 more . one in my bag & one in my emergency bag in case i land in the hospital.we should all have an emergency bag.

I'm assuming you're talking about a much newer inserter than I have, but I've been using mine for 12 years.

You'd think I would have gotten a backup at some point, but when I've misplaced it and I need to change the pump ASAP, I've had to go with manual insertion. (Ow.)

I have a Minimed 522 and order my supplies through CCS Medical. I just found out today that some people do the insertion manually. The biggest problem is keeping the inserter clean. An alcohol pad is too small to get the sticky off oneself and clean the insertion device. I take those pads women use to clean off make up with and douse one of them with alcohol & clean everything with that, each time.

I've had the same Minimed quickset inserter for 10 years! Also, even though it's supposedly bad to push the buttons at different times, that's how I've always done it and I've never had a problem because of it.

I have used the MM sofset inserter (the long blue one) since January 2001 (11+ y) and it is finally beginning to stick. I have to wiggle the button to get it placed right. I have not been able to find it on the MM site. I prefer to use the inserter for sofset but can manually insert other sets.

The Inset comes packaged in its own insertion device. I have never had one fail on me. This is one of the many features I liked over the MiniMed.

I have used the same inserter for quicksets for 9 years, looking for wood to knock on.

I have extras if you need one.

I had an inserter when I was using the Silhouette. However, I usually inserted manually because I had problems with the introducer needle bending and had bruising as my infusion sites. Now I'm using the Mio. Each set has its own integrated inserter. I really like it!

Never use it. Tried once or twice at first, but after shooting insulin forever, it is easy for me to do without it.

CCS Medical will send me a new one when ever I ask. We cruise a lot so I take an extra for this. The nice folks at Metronic will send you a loaner pump for long trips & all you pay is shipping and handling which is about 50.00. I clean my inserter thoroughly every 3 days when I change the tubing. I guess it would be easy to change manually, I had never thought of such a thing !
