Do you Wear Medical ID jewelry?

I’ve worn a MedicAlert for years. I wear the gold one, even the “logo” is gold. I wear it on my left wrist and never take it off. Once, when I was in college, I fainted in the school cafeteria from a severe low and one girl I knew pointed it out to the EMS techs. She had noticed it on my arm and knew that Medic Alert was something that they should look at.

My mother made me get a Medic-Alert bracelet when I moved away to college. Prior to that I refused, but I wanted to pick my battles at that time and agreed to get one. Since then, I have replaced it a couple of times, but never take it off. I wear mine on my left wrist and it says “DIABETES. INSULIN PUMP.” When I play hockey or other sports where someone could get caught on it, I put tape over it leaving the Medic-Alert logo exposed.

my moms best friend passed away from diabetes a couple months before i got diagnosed and her husband gave me her diabetes braclet. its very femine and it doesnt even really look like a medical bracelet. i need to get engraved but i wear it all the time just in case.

Brian,

Were there any issues with getting a tat with Diabetes ? Did it take long to heal ? Greater risk of infection ?

Jeff

Yes… I wear a medicalert emblem around my neck on a chain.

I chose Medicalert because they store my Medical Info so if I can’t speak the First Responder/Doctor can call and get the info they need about me.

After reading this discussion, I recently ordered a MedicAlert bracelet and registered in their system. Found another bracelet that I like much more, but I do like the idea of being registered in the MedicAlert system, which is why I chose that one. This way, if I ever need to go in an ambulance, they can easily get a lot of information about me, including all medications and dosing. They also notify up to 5 people if something happens, which I like. I have my boyfriend, my father, and my doctor listed.

Yep cheapo necklace from the grocery store. I do want to get a Krunked ID at some point though perhaps even a Grille for my mouth with GOT DA BETES! Written across the front of it in diamonds. One can only dream!

I am thinking about getting an ID bracelet again. I have had them in the past but forget to wear them or lose them. What I really want to know is do you think there should be more information on them besides "diabetes"and “type 1” or “type 2”?

I have contemplated a tattoo on the wrist as well, but because of work am not leaning in that direction at the moment.

You must have seen this in the news.
This poor man.

All I can say is…JEESH!!!

Hmm, where did the link go.

Thanks, I looked it up…( and put in my 2 cents’ worth! ).Scary, isn’t it?

My sister has type one and she wears medical ID sometimes and always takes with her a Medic Tag.
This has all her information, medication, doctors, past history. I know you can never be to sure in an emergency that your information will get known but it feels right that she has more than just an ID. she got hers at http//:www.jakoter.com

I wear a MedicAlert Nickless and have since I was 16. I never take mine off for any reason. I would like to have a Citizen watch from MedicAlert have it on my Christmas list

I am attaching a link to there web site: http://www.medicalert.org/home/Homegradient.aspx

For what reason do you take yours off?

Andy

That is a really good question. I guess I have just treated it like regular jewlery, but being that I am single and live it would make sense to wear it 24/7. Good point!

I have only taken my medicalert bracelet off for an 2 MRIs and for two medical procedures that I had to remove all jewelry. I have almost always wore some type of medical ID for the last 18 years, but this is the first time I have subscribed to the medicalert service.

Hi Alisha.
I WEAR A SIMPLE RED BAND MEDIC ALERT BAND. INSIDE IT HOLDS WHAT INSULIN I TAKE AND THAT I AM A
TYPE 1. I ALSO HAVE A MEDICAL CARD IN MY WALLET AND GLOVE BOX IN THE CAR WITH THE SAME INFO
AND CONTACT PHONE NUMBERS. I WEAR IT AT ALL TIMES EXCEPT BED.

Do you wear medical ID jewelry? Yes I do

If yes, what type? where do you wear it? It’s a basic $5 one from Walgreens, metal

Do you wear it all the time, on occasion? Why? I wear mine all the time because I’ve noticed the longer I have had diabetes the less I feel hypos and I tend to act really differently lately and it scares me; I DO NOT want to be mistaken for someone who has had too much to drink because I know I don’t act normal when low and I also wear one because if anything ever happens to me, it’s there to let others know so if I need medical attention they are aware of my needs

I actually asked this same exact question on another forum this October  and somebody said they got theirs from http://www.laurenshope.com/products.aspx?catid=9. I really want one because they are awfully pretty!!

I recently got one from “stickyjewlery” that i wear all the time. It is a basic charm braclet with the medic alert charm on it that on the back of the charm says diabetes. it is very nice and i wear it tight so it doesn’t bother me.i never take it off as it is to hard to put on by my self.
