Do you Wear Medical ID jewelry?

I wear a necklace, as i have a bracelet but I just hate stuff on my wrist. I need to go have a line added to my necklace but don’t know how to word renal cancer, no right kidney in a manner that is short enough but understandable.

NO… I am going to order one… I do have other forms of ID… a keychain that say’s “NO BLOOD” and directs you to a medical directive I carry in my wallet. THANK YOU for asking the question…it made me go look at the key chain and then “IT” directed me to my wallet [which I forgot it did] I only had diabetes written in…sad… So, thanks to you I updated it with type, medication and allergies!

I don’t consider that as taking off my nickless. But you put it that way I have taken it off for chest x-rays.

I have a Med ID necklace, I wore it for awhile but don’t much anymore, Don’t know why not. I carry ID info on my pump in my wallet.

Yes, I wear a necklace that has the medical alert symbol and on the back reads “DIABETES”

I’ve wore it for about 7 years and have had no problem. I take it off at night, but if I’m traveling I keep it on at night.

I also have a card in my wallet that gives more information.

Yeah I just started wearing medical ID jewelry again. Mine is one of the basic silver jewelry that has diabetic engraved on it. I have to have some other things that need to engraved on it as well.

I also carry a wallet ID as well with the information about medicines, allergies, etc.

I don’t wear medical ID of any kind. Why not? Well, all logic would dictate I should but I haven’t really thought that much about it. The reason I don’t probably has something to do with pride and privacy. I guess the truth is I don’t want the world to know I have diabetes (that’s one of the reasons I don’t wear a pump). Now that I am thinking about it, I guess I believe I don’t need one. It’s a complicated thought process…

Thanks fellows, Honestly speaking this is my first time to learn about this medical ID jewelry.
I’ ll try to find one if there is locally available. I am type 2 diabetic and Im on my 9 years. Just started on insulin last July, 2008.

I had a dog tag made on one of those machines in front of Wallyworld that says “Diabetic - Non-Insulin Dependent” and put it on my key ring. I couldn’t afford most of the medic alert bracelets I looked at and would have to have one that is at least sterling silver or 14 K gold due to skin allergies. The tag was only $5.00 and a good substitute, I think.

I am now in the process of scouting for one. I have been searching the net but unfortunately there is no available here in our country.

I do wear an Eco Drive watch from MedicAlert. I have always wanted this kind of watch (you don’t wind it), and I figured it would be a practical investment if I’m going to wear a Medical ID. I do it basically because I have three children, who don’t know all my meds, and I’m a teacher, and I have been in a car accident before, and the paramedics want to know if you are diabetic or have heart conditions (both of which I have) first. I also carry a MedicAlert card in my wallet that gives out pertinent information, like my husband’s emergency number and my doctor’s number.

I have a medical ID bracelet that I wear on my wrist.
I always where it, except during basketball games (because it could get caught on jerseys etc.)

No, but I should. I have 2 kids at home and my husband is deployed. So if something happens to me the paramedics would know what was wrong.

I wear a bracelet a fellow artist had leftover from an art project - the front has the info (Name, diabetes, insulin, etc), and the back reads “even this burning house is good to live in” - I hope it makes the EMTs smile…

oops! its a necklace…

I like that quote. Do you know where it comes from?

I have two kids as well. They are older now, when they were younger, and I was home alone with them, I often worried about what would happen should I become uncounscious or unable to respond. Scary.

I don’t - my friend collects sayings, poems, etc to be stamped on the back of these dog tags (which I then had engraved). Some are from contemporary writers, others from random thoughts, others might be more well known. When I googled the burning house bit after seeing your post, the only hit was this forum - alas… If I hear back from Holly (the artist) I’ll let you know.

I wear a Medic Alert necklace all the time. When I’m exercising, i wear a braclet also so it’s clearly visible to everyone. It turns out the necklace is a great place to clip the pump to at night also. I can hear any alarms and it just rolls over in bed with me.

I have worn a medic-alert bracelet for forty-nine of my 52 diabetic years. Not the same one. My current one is heavy nickel with a medic-alert symbol to one side. I took it to a jewler and had the word, “DIABETIC” engraved on it. I don’t wear it to bed. It has a place inside for printed details, but it gets wet so that doesn’t work.
