I know right, My kids are 9 and 5. I have a feeling they would freak out and wouldn’t know what to do.
Yeah…been there…rather personal, some people just don’t have any social skills. One time replied…“Oh…I just wear it for fun”…not nice, I know…reason why I hate wearing it.
Yours med bracelet really looks cool.
I also learned about this here. And I am planning to buy one for me.
Mike,
Thank you for sharing!
I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone say anything to me about my bracelet. Interesting. Wonder if they are being polite or just don’t notice it???
Here is a pic of my bracelet. It’s a web cam photo so not that great.
I can’t remember where I got it from. It was a place online, years ago…
I really like the look of it.

If your sugars are in check, there are no issues. Most shops sell healing aids such as Tattoo Goo and H2Ocean, and they help with the healing process. But, as long as your sugars are in check, and if you don’t have problems healing with cuts and scrapes, you should be OK. I am heavily tattooed and will be getting my medic alert tattoo next week. I have never had any healing issues.
There are other ways developing without wearing a medic tag if you do not want or like to wear them. If you scroll down on the HOME page there is a section that says Members Discounts. If you click on this there is one that is available in an Electronic format that can be access from any computer with internet. If you join them a portion of all sales go DHF. If we all join together maybe this year we will make the $20,000 goal for DHF.
Yes I always wear a medic alert tag too.
I always wear a medical bracelet - except now due to being active - I have one that won’t get ripped off my arm. I wear a neat looking ID meant mainly for children - from Rescue Me - in a really neat turquoise metal colour (you can get different colours / straps / etc. etc.). I was sailing last month in St Thomas - and one of the passengers on our boat asked me what my medical condition was. That’s the first time I’ve ever had anyone ask me that - which doesn’t bother me. I may order up another one eventully - just shipping from the US sucks to Canada - so expensive. I tend to have things that are light weight sent to my in-laws in FL - and they ship it to me for under next to nothing.
I have one, from Laurenshope.com, so it’s prettier than a usual medical id tag, which I like. And I’ve gotten many compliments on it.
I usually wear it 24/7, I usually take it off when I have to erg for crew because it tends to get in the way, but other than that it’s almost always on.
I’ve worn a variety of Medic-Alert bracelets for 52 years. I’m a T1 going on my first pump next week. I have ordered a stainless-steel necklace because someone in another post said he uses a necklace from which he hangs his pump while changing clothes. I can’t find that advice again. I would like to thank him for the tip. I bought the necklace on line at www.makemethis.com. I got a nice one for 9.95
I also carry a bunch of printed material in my billfold. It came with my MiniMed.
I don’t wear the jewelry around the house, but always put it on before leaving.
Alisha:
Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. I have a MedicAlert bracelet but my record there is not up to date because of the cost. The one big reason that I don’t wear it is because it bugs the heck out of me since I have carpal tunnel. Anything on my wrist is aggravating. Anything I wear on my neck turns my neck black or green unless I pay a lot for it and that’s not in the cards either!
I do carry a 4-page computer generated word processed document that I made up with all my meds, conditions, surgeries, hospitalizations, allergies, cautions, you name it. I spent a few hours designing it and then getting it to fit without having to lug it around on a cart!! I also give this to the DRs anytime I know they are going to ask me these questions. I don’t want to be bothered with repeating all that.

David,
I picked up on your tip of using the necklace as a place to hang my pump. I’ve only been wearing the pump for a week now, but don’t know how I would get along without. Thanks a bunch!!!
I hadn’t worn a med id in 10 years but finally decided I needed to err on the side of caution and start wearing one again. I got my “Lauren’s Hope” bracelet in the mail last week and LOVE it - very pretty, worth every penny, and definitely the best med id I have EVER worn! I keep the id tag turned under and only one person all week has realized it was anything more than just a pretty bracelet. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend the company to anyone.
I work for a government agency and see alot of cops and firemen. I also have a “lauren’s Hope” bracelet and I asked them if they would notice it. Sorry to say, but they (about 10 diffrent people so far) have said no. Its too “fancy” and they would by pass it. Its better than nothing, yet they felt that a tatoo on the wrist would be much better. (also told me many times there is an accident, bracelets come off)
Not sure if Im up for the whole wrist tat, but I do like the ones I already have!
I never wear one. I should because my sugars are crazy, but also because I’m allergic to latex and if I’m passed out I can’t tell them that. I don’t wear one because I lost mine about 9 years ago and decided I don’t really care. Besides I have a pump, so if I’m dieing someone is going to call 911 and they will know by my pump I’m a diabetic.
My friend has a tattoo with the medical symbol and type 1 diabetic written under it. I wouldn’t do that but its a cool idea.
I wear a silver DB necklace. It’s one of two that I received when I was first diagnosed at age 17. I’m 49 now. And before everyone says EEEEEEEEWWWWWW!!!, believe it or not, it’s still in great shape, and no, it doesn’t smell! Just ask my pet skunk, he’ll tell you it’s true! (sorry, couldn’t resist) Seriously, I take it off for MRI’s, etc, but other than that, it’s pretty much with me all the time. When I do take it off, it feels weird. I keep waiting for it to break, or wear out, or for the etching to fade off, but it won’t. And at this point, I guess I’d feel kind of lost without it. I’m sure it will be around long after I’m gone. Personally, I think it had a former life as an Army Tank tread . . . I’m thinking about getting a couple of these, which from the pictures, look kind of cool:

Think the necklace will be jealous?

[EDIT] I am a new pump user, and have begun taking all of my supplies around with me. Part of that includes my wallet, which has a DB ID card in it, along with a card indicating a have an lens implant in one eye. I recently added two typed sheets of paper, folder up in the bag, listing all of my meds along with doses, and a listing of all of my doc’s and their contact info. (Endo, Family doc, podiatrist, etc.)
