Had a very light lunch,so figured it would be alright to eat some Carbolite sugar free yogurt. Well, two hrs later I had a spike and a half.
Do any of you folks have that reaction? It's obviously something I'll have to go easy on.
I haven't tried that one. I do really good with Youplait light. 16 grams of carbs. It's pretty good too.
I think some of the sugar free stuff makes me spike more than if I just ate a small serving of something with sugar in it. The sugar free ice cream, makes me spike more than regular ice cream. I've heard a lot of times "light" foods have more hidden sugars in them to make up for the lower fat version. So light isn't always necessarily better. Not sure what the solution is but usually once something spikes me, I'll find a different alternative.
I think many of us have discovered that sugar free does not mean carb free. And ice cream or yogurt that is made from milk (as opposed to cream) starts off with like 12g of carbs per cup just from the milk. Adding sugar just makes it worse. And the other thing that you have to be careful about is the subtle lie. Sugar free is applied to foods that still contain sugar alcohols. And while some sugar alcohols don't cause much of a blood sugar rise, others are almost as bad as sugar. So it is important to read nutrition and ingredient labels carefully. You can't just trust product claims. And sometimes, even the nutrition label can be deceptive, not properly counting the carbs or having unreasonably small serving sizes.
Yeah,I think what I'm experiencing is my body not being as lenient as before. Good morning #'s. Yesterday 92,today 128 probably reflecting the spike yesterday afternoon. Using 16 units of Lantus now. I'll leave that be for a few days and keep working.
Thanks
Yeah,I use Dannon Greek and it's working well. I wish I liked cottage cheese as that's a lowfat protein source. Went to Costco yesterday and got their brand of Egg Beaters for a no cholesterol breakfast but it sucks. I'll return it this morning and just use the real thing occasionally. Back to no sugar almond milk too I guess.
My overall readings are sure better, but without the Glipizide I sure spike more. I imagine the quick acting insulin is next.
Thanks folks.
I love the unsweetened almond milk. I'm a big cereal eater and can do some cereals ok, but the unsweetened almond milk really cuts down on unnecessary carbs. I used to do egg beaters in the microwave with a little butter and just a tablespoon of milk, and they would turn out really good. But I didn't think they prepared well on the stove.
I agree sugar alcohols is another one of those things, that we all seem to have different responses too. Reading the food labels and really watching the serving sizes is a must.
I going to return to unsweetened almond milk and that should cushion the cereal carbs somewhat.
Anybody tried Nectresse? Derived from the monk fruit, whatever that is?
