You just need to find one with no sugar in it. The added extra oils, if any, that they might add will not affect yout BG. It is the sugar that will.
Not sure what else tell you, if it is the sugar that is causing your higher BG, than the only thing you can do is get used to one without the sugar. Otherwise, you might have to stop eating peanut butter.
Peanut butter on itās own, doesnāt spike me⦠BUT, it has this particular combination of protein and fat, that if I have it with 15 carbs from a slice of bread, than I will spike. I have 1 tablespoon on 1 slice of Light Rye Wasa Crackers (only 1 slice, and ONLY Light Rye), and then I donāt spike. OR, I use low carb bread, the kind that has 8 grams or less of carbs per slice. Sarah Lee 45 Calories and Delightful is one⦠Village Hearth Light is another⦠stuff like that.
I have never really noticed PB raise BG in my son much before but probably have not analyzed BG further into the day to maybe realize it does. It usually takes a meal with lots of fat to affect his BG later on and we are trying Combo Boluses with our new Ping with some decent success. A 30%/70% split over 2 hours with such food has worked wonders the last 3 times we have tried the new combo bolus. Not good for bedtime of course but the extended IOB works out great for Many higher fat meals for us. He would often get low in 60-90 minutes after the McDonald`s or similar fast food (about the peak time of NovoRapid) and about 17mmol or so 4 hours later but is now around 6.5 mmol or so during that same time frame using delayed combo boluses with the Pingā¦a feature we are starting to love (sorry we Canucks, or at least many of us use mmol I think). When I say high fat I mean McDonaldās fryās and McChicken which sit at approx 70 + carbs and about 35 g Fat or more combined. No we donāt eat McDās that often. Can someone point me to more detailed info on how Protein plays a roll in affecting BG, I have been aware of it having a roll but never really looked further into it in any detail and have not factored more than carbs and fat into considerations for doses much
I love peanut butter and I would eat it all day if I could! I mix about 3 spoonfuls of unsweetened peanut butter with stevia and eat it right out of the bowl. I have to bolus 1 or 2 units of Humalog though or else my blood sugar will slowly creep up.
I think thatās why Iāve been confused about peanut butterās effect on my BGālike you said, it makes BG slowly creep up. One hour later, there is little effect, but 3 or 4 hours after eating some (okay, lots) of peanut butter, my BG is a lot higher.
For some reason, I go for Peanut Butter when I am low and it does a number on me. It starts to raise my BG after a few hours and seems to keep them elevated for the next 12 hours or so. Very difficult to lower my BG after eating Peanut Butter. I need to learn to stay away from Peanut Butter, but it is so yummy, especially when I am low
I experience the same reaction as you. Slow rise. Seemingly good when I go to sleep and then continuous creeping up as I sleep. I have had to eliminate it as my night time snack.
I eat the Jif to go creamy peanut butter cups with cheddar cheese sticks,. Haha gross I know, but I see minimal rise in BG with it. I donāt even bolus for that unless I need a correction. I eat one to go cup of peanut butter and 3 cheddar cheese sticks usually as a midday got the munchies kinda snack.
