My daughter Rachel Lavery drew this picture about two months ago. She titled it “Saline Start - Mommy Practicing for Me”. She’s 6 years old, and has had Type 1 Diabetes since she was 20 months old. She drew this when I was wearing her insulin pump for three days on saline in preparation for her pump start. She asked that I point out that the blue on her face and Daddy’s face are “tears of happiness” because everyone was happy we were starting with the Cozmo, and because I wore it to practice for her, even though I don’t have diabetes. She named her Cozmo “Icee” because it’s Ice Blue. I thought this was a very sweet depiction of our whole family during what could have been a stressful time of transition. She’s been on the pump for two months now, and is doing wonderfully!

This picture was drawn by Sarah Czech, age 6.

The community selected the following as the top 3 drawings for the last week of the “Drawing Diabetes” contest:
- NANNY, by Talan (age 7), grandson of our member Cheery Love.
- My Family and Everyday Life, by Jordan (age 9)
- Saline Start - Mommy Practicing for Me, by Rachel (age 6).
I am sure it was as hard to vote for each of the 139 persons who participated in the poll as it was for us to choose, because all the drawings were great!
We will be selecting and announcing the two winners of the final grand prize later this week. The drawing will be made among the participants during all four weeks of the contest…
I like number 11.
We are happy to announce the results for the final drawing of “Drawing Diabetes”!
