I just had Dreamfields pasta for the first time today. Totally did a SWAG bolus (only had a little mac salad and knew I was swimming after so just covered for a little). I read the box and it said 5 g digestable carbs. How do you all bolus for this? I am a little confused. Do you all bous for it like any regular pasta? I currently do a dual wave bolus for pasta 70/30 over 1 hour for 45c (1 serving).
I have a REALLY hard time with Dreamfields pasta. In my experience, the “protected carbs” are only protected for a few hours. I see a spike in hours 4-6 after eating. I bolused for about half the amount that I would for regular pasta and then checked after 4 hours and started correcting.
Given that this is such a pain, I just quit eating it all together. It’s easier for me to bolus for small servings of regular pasta.
I know that other people got it to work with lots of experimenting with dual wave boluses.
I’m type 2, with occasional need for insulin and the first time I ate Dreamfields, I didn’t do anything. I wanted to see what it would do to me and I figured it would be ok for ONE time. However, the problem I have, is it NEVER reacts the same way with me twice. I finally gave up all together and if I want pasta, I just eat the real stuff in VERY SMALL PORTIONS because I know how it reacts. Good luck though!
The delayed reaction of Dreamfields isn’t worth the trouble to me. I’m skeptical of their nutritional labeling.
I was wondering how Dreamfield’s products were able to say that they only have 5 g digestible carbs versus the other carbs in other pasta products. I did not test to see whether they increased my levels after 2 hours but I have wondered if there is an effect. Usually when I go over my carb limit I feel the effects of increased sugar but I haven’t with this pasta. Maybe this is something to check into.
The fiber supposedly accounts for the 5 carbs, of course, but the effect it had on me four hours later (I was fine at two hours) was more than 5 carbs. A delayed spike isn’t a good thing for those of us on insulin because the food hits after insulin is gone.
Their 5 carb claim is for about 1 cup of cooked pasta, a very small portion.

Thanks for all of the replies. I am very skeptical about how to bolus for this and I was figuring what to do if the insulin hit before the food. I will just stick to regular pasta and eat smaller portions.
Jennifer,
I’m sure there’s fewer digestible carbs. BUT whatever there is hits me 6-8 hours later. So I have no faith in what’s in it. I don’t like 190 no matter when it comes. It’s the first and last box. I’m better off forgetting the food existed. I’m wiping my brain right now.
