Dreamfields Pasta

I love pasta and have been scared to eat it, my numbers would be high the next morning after having pasta for dinner, but I found out about Dreamfields pasta’s and my numbers was a lot lower the next morning and it taste great too. Has anyone else tried it or had simular results? I even have a little bit larger portions with Dreamfields pasta then I would with regular pasta’s cause my number are so much lower. Check it out, Dreamfields pasta has a web page and a store locator where it is sold, it’s in all my grocery stores here in South Fla.

I am glad that it works for you John. Unfortunately, it spikes me. I can eat more of it, and bolus for less than normal pasta. That is a nice thing. However, it will shoot me up four to six hours later. That makes me sad because I love pasta and was hoping that this would work for me.

Hi John, It’s the only pasta in the house now. they seem to make every shape and size. I have no issue with it although some have experienced a delayed spike ≈5 hours later. A good on line store is Netrician

How does it taste compared to regular pasta? I’m wondering if the non-diabetics in the household will like it?

It tastes great. My kids and wife like it very much. We all think it tastes better than whole wheat pasta. We still buy Dreamfields when pasta is called for. I just don’t eat much of it (like I don’t eat any pasta much).

That’s the funny thing about this diabetes, what works for some people don’t always work for others. I guess yhat’s why there is so much info out there.

I can’t tell the difference Patra, it taste like regular pasta to me.

Yes, it tastes the same as regular pasta. I was really excited to try it. My first experience was good at 2 hours and at bedtime 4 hours later. But my second time I was up really late so tested 6 hours later. At 2 hours I was 125 but then at 6 I was 205! No good! I’m going to give it another try. I ate 1 cup for this result. If I can only eat 1/2 cup then I may as well eat any pasta which works fine for me in that small serving. Sigh.

I strongly recommend that anyone who tries Dreamfields pasta measures their blood sugar 6 hours after eating. As others have mentioned in their replies, this is when most of us see the spike from the pasta.

This doesn’t mean that Dreamfields is not better than other pasta, it’s just good to be aware of what’s happening. The “protected carbs” are not protected, but rather, the digestion of those carbs is delayed several hours.

As a person who calculates insulin doses based on carb counts, Dreamfields is actually harder for me to handle than regular pasta because the spike is less predictable. But I think that it could be a great option for people who treat their diabetes with oral medication or just diet and exercise. Still I recommend that all check their blood sugar six hours after eating!

Good point, I didn’t know this, good info, thanks

John, I learned a few years back that foods such as pasta dishes have a higher fat content, so they digest more slowly. after the longer period of time the insulin is used up, so now the food is spiking your blood sugar. Ask a dietician and your doctor about modified insulin regimen after eating foods that are fattier.Other foods that fit into this cataggory are Pizza, chinese food, mexican food, ice cream, just to name a few. Of course these are all foods that I love to eat…but they always cause problems. Jim

Hello all

My son is relatively new to pumping – since 2 June – is 13 yrs old. In our house we have always eaten a lot of pasta, and it always makes him high the next day…We have finally now tracked more closely what happens to him, and he spikes from 6-8 hours after.

We have tried several different dual waves with the Minimed – none have worked so far. I know that this is all just trial and error, but we are eager to keep trying to see if something works for him.

We have tried 3 and 4 hour dual waves, 30/70 split. We have also tried a 30/70 eight hour dual wave, which is how we located the big spike starting at 6 hours!

I have heard that some people use temp basals with pasta. Any suggestions welcome!

I am 64 , love pasta and have same dame useless delayed response-digestion. Dreamfields while better profile do not stop the delay.

The digestion delay just buggers up my BG control, sleep etc.

So far easiest answer is so far is - do not eat the dam stuff.

I ate a lot of pasta as a vegetarian before my diagnosis so I was excited to try Dreamfield’s. I didn’t have a very good experience - I definitely spiked much much later. I had bought two boxes of different kinds so I kept playing around with it. In the end I found that I could only eat 1/2 cup of the stuff to have any kind of success, which is the same amount I can eat of regular pasta. Dreamfield’s is much more expensive and it tastes ok, but not nearly as good as the fresh pasta I was used to buying. So I went back to only eating pasta on the rare occasion when I am out and it’s the only vegetarian option on the menu.

Its the supe slow startup, stall and hours later belt out the glucose drives me nuts on regular pasta and on Dreamfields. The glucose stallout part the way through and the extended digestion cycle of pasta - both types drives me nuts.

I heard a lit has to do with how long you boil it.

I always eat pasta al dente, mhynes. From other discussions on this topic I’ve gathered that some people tolerate it well and others don’t. I also think there are a third group who just test at 2 hours and think they tolerate it well, but don’t notice the spike 6 hours later!

I hope you guys read this. This company was cited for false advertising. Their pasta is in fact not low carb. I myself fell for it. If you notice their packaging no longer says low carb pasta. Google it to get all the details.

Pasta doesn’t work for me at all. I have started making noodles with zucchini or spaghetti squash. Then I can enjoy dinner with the rest of the folks. Everyone is different.

I don’t have a problem with the black bean noodles (aside from needing to cover the carbs like normal). They just recently popped up in our costco! There’s also the zero carb shiritaki noodles, which I think are fine with asian sauces but they don’t work for me in anything else…
