Family Visit!

My parents, grandparents, and younger brother are coming to visit me in Boston this weekend. I'm so excited to see them. I haven't seen any of them since getting engaged a few weeks ago, so we haven't had a chance to celebrate yet.

I have to admit that my family seems to have always been in a little bit of denial as far as my diabetes goes (the men in my family more than the women). I mean that in a good way though. They take care of me, and they are concerned about my health, but growing up, they always instilled a "just deal with it and move on" attitude in me that I believe has gotten me through some tough times. We don't dwell on my diabetes and we don't talk at length about it. They ask me how I'm feeling. If I say "good," then we talk about something else. I like it that way too. For a couple of hours a day when I'm with my family, I completely forget that I have diabetes...and then, before I know it, it's time to check my sugar again :) But those couple worry-free hours are the sweetest.

Here's to family visits!
