I have gastroparesis and I have been feeling nauseous even though my blood sugars are controlled. I have been taking a new drug since the 15th of June. It is called Lacosamide. I have a seizure disorder and the doctors put me on this drug because the last one I was on was causing low sodium. I am wondering if it is this new drug making me feel this way as I haven’t felt good since I have been on it? I don’t see the doctor that prescribed me this pill until December.
Although you may not have an appointment with your doctor until December, you certainly can call his or her office to let them know of your reaction to the medication. Perhaps a Med Tech or an RN can give you some advice or can contact the doctor for a different prescription. If I were you, I would call today. Nausea and vomiting ARE possible side effects of Lacosamide according to Drugs.com.
I would also call the pharmacist and get her/him to answer your questions about Lacosamide side effects. We too often overlook the pharmacist when dealing with these types of situations. Even if you consult with the prescribing doctor, I would also seek out the counsel of the pharmacist. Good luck!
I haven’t vomitted yet and I have been dealing with this for about 3 weeks. I am scared to think that it is the diabetic gastroparesis. I have been eating smaller meals and doing deep belly breathing and walking after meals. I am eating only soft foods and taking all my meds. I might call tomorrow but I dont know if it is the medication. My bloodsugars are being controlledI have been on target 97% in 24 hours. Today so far I have been 98%.
I am really scared! If it is my gastroparesis what else can they do for me? My gastroparesis has always been mild. I am already taking domperidone 3x a day. Since I started with this new medicine Lacosimide I have come down with a dry mouth and have nausea but not vomitting. The dry mouth comes and goes so it isn’t always dry. Maybe I will call my pharmacy to talk to someone about what is happening. I have to start somewhere.
I’m not sure it’s the new meds I was prescribed but I think I’ll. call my family doctor to see him. I guess I will start there.
Good News, Friends! I am doing a little better today! I had no nausea and had no trouble falling asleep the last 2 nights! I even went grocery shopping today. I hope it continues! I’m not going to call my doctor unless the nausea comes back.
That’s great that you are in range, but the fact remains that something is making you feel ill. That tells me your idea of calling the pharmacy or calling your doctor’s office to further investigate the cause is correct. You have nothing to lose by doing so, and hopefully you can get some answers and some relief. I hope you have success.
Yes it is all great news! I started to feel a bit better on Wednesday evening so I thought I would give it more time. This morning I was still doing well. I am on an anticonvulsant and the same pill for like 47 years. This medication was making my sodium too low causing me to have more seizures. When he put me on this new medicine I was taking my original medicine with a new pill. I was getting a bigger dose of medicine for 4 weeks.I have been on this new medicine for about 4weeks. I decrease the old medication by 50mg every 4 weeks until I am fully on the new one. I am thinking the new pill is what was causing the nausea. So far so good. I hope and pray it continues.
