Fiasp or Admelog

My Medicare prescription plan is forcing me off Humalog which I have used for 20 years and making me choose between Fiasp or Admelog. I understand Fiasp works a little quicker. I could certainly benefit from a little quicker action time. Are there any Fiasp users that could enlighten me? I’m currently using Omnipod (until they kick me off that too).

I’m in BC, Canada. I mix Admelog 50/50 with Fiasp. The reason I mix is because I found 100% Fiasp causes stinging and welts at my infusion sites. Mixing 50/50 seems to give me a faster action time, but does not cause any discomfort or site problems. I use Omnipod Dash with DIY Loop. Admelog retail price is $26.21 Cdn per vial ($19.41 USD) or about a 35% discount from Humalog’s retail price. I have noticed no difference from using Humalog to using Admelog.

Fiasp in my pods also caused stinging and redness/bumps. I returned to Humalog until my provincial plan switched me to Admelog. I love Admelog. I find it much more consistent and predictable than either Fiasp or Humalog. In my body, none is noticeably faster than another.

@Cinderfella, If you are enrolled in the original Medicare Part B and you are qualified for using an insulin pump, then you can choose any insulin type that you like. All DME and supplies are covered under Medicare Part B and any Medicap plan. However, if you use pod which is not considered a DME, it is then under Medicare Part D - prescription drug. You have a copayment and your choice of insulin is limited per your selected prescription drug plan. If you already know the rules, just ignore my comments above.

I am using Fiasp without any issues. However, before that I was on Novolog. Both (Novolog and Fiasp) insulin types are “insulin aspart”.
Once I tried Lyumjev (Insulin Lispro) and i got extreme pain, sting, rash and swollen infusion site. I immediately stopped using Lyumjev and switched to Fiasp.
My understanding is, if you are used to “insulin lispro”(Humalog:slower version of it, lyumjev: faster version) then you would adapt better to the same kind of insulin.
In my case I am used to Insulin Aspart (Novolog:slower version, Fiasp:faster) and I am happy with Fiasp. I use it in Tandem Mobi pump along with Dexcom G7.
Never heard of Admelog. You could always try the new insulin and if you have any adverse reaction (allergic reaction) then you can inform your endocrinologist to switch to another insulin.
