*Finally! I Hit My 50 Year D Anniversary Recently*!

I guess that I'm copying off of T1Forever. :) I feel like such a "commoner" now. :)

It has been a long haul and certainly a Life of interesting D and RA experiences. I was only supposed to live to my 30ish years. I was dxd. with D at age 3 and am now 53, so I'm way past the original prediction. Most of my Life with D was Toss and Tumble at best because of lack of knowledge and no other Type 1's to talk to about it. I did end up with a few complications. One was repaired with lasers, another I reversed by getting under Better control thanks to my first Ophtho and one Endo in particular plus my own research. Also maintaining my D successfully by learning and talking to other D Patients and Good Friends on many different DOCs through the years, have helped a lot, of course including TuD as one the top sites. :) Plus my Medical Teams' Care.

My present Endo mentioned to me last Spring about receiving the 50th Year Medal which convinced me in the end. He put me on the list at my last appointment recently, so I'm not expecting it until January maybe? Although my Dad has passed, my Mom is thankfully still living. I will be receiving my Medal also for my 2 Brothers who were both dxd. at age 4 and who died too soon, one at 45.5 years and one with 48.5 years of Juvenile/Type 1 Diabetes.

We are all celebrating my 50th D Anniversary by going out to a new Restaurant, my choice(IOB) and decorating our Christmas tree and home later. :) I wish you ALL a New Year that is Healthier and a Hopeful Life with Diabetes and a Cure. Blessings to All and Merry Christmas to you who celebrate it. :)

Hell no, you are not common, congratulations on your awesome achievement! As my favorite quote addresses the issue of nobility: "For he to-day that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, this day shall gentle his condition..." Henry V

You're always special Terrie! Congratulations! Your achievement inspires me more...thank you :)

Congratulations Terrie!!!

I forgot to thank all of the People that I mentioned in my first post. Thank you!! I appreciate you all. :) I will have to do some in Person also. My Hubby deserves so much of my gratitude since he's been there for me through everything since we were 17 y/o. He saved my Life many times. I do Love him. I hope he doesn't read this but I'm going to get him a trophy with his name and acknowledgements engraved on it. He'll like it. Probably one for my Mom also. :) She did her Best that she could during the early years.

Thank you AR! That makes me feel even Better. Yes, a lot of blood has been shed for this disease/condition. LOL! Interesting quote. :)

Oh Shucks Teena. :) Thank you for saying that.

Thank you Sportster. ;-)

Congrats, dear Terrie! Rewarding proving doctors wrong & living a long, healthy life. You'll have to show us your medal.

Lovely idea about a trophy for your husband & mom. Our families sure deserve it.

Hope you had a great celebration.

Thank you so much Gerri....and thank you for your help. I look up to you btw. :D

My country Dr. who dxd. me is long deceased. He was pretty old when I knew him(well he looked old to me) but he still made house calls. I remember him as a Kind Man. :) For sure on our Families.

We will have to celebrate hopefully tomorrow. One of our People had to work late plus my RA has been attacking me the last couple of days, so hopefully I'll be shining more tomorrow. ;-)

Certainly, I'll show you my medal after it arrives. I do hope that my Endo didn't forget me since he was flustered by a couple of his other Patients when I saw him last. We shall see.

My Dear Terrie ...what an inspiration you are !! I am soo glad you came into my life via TuD ...Thanks for YOU and for sharing your milestone here. Your Team of numerous people : family , medical people etc , etc. will no doubt be very proud of you .
Merry Christmas to you and your family .

Have twice as much fun tomorrow! Sorry about the RA & hope you're feeling better to celebrate.

I remember my childhood doc, Dr. Harris, who made housecalls. Arrived with his black bag & was always kind & gentle with us. I went to him until I was 17. I called to make my own appt. Asked for age of patient & said 17. Seventeen months asked the nurse? Nope, 17 years:)

Congratulations. You are my hero!!

Nice going Terrie. I'm at 31 years dx at 27. Had laser 7x, lost a toe, but like the bunny I keep on going....and going.....and going .,...and

I just upped my Pred. dose some so I was able to move about like a rusty robot. :) Nothing was going to stop me cuz this is my time. We had a Good evening and Good food and music plus I had a glass of red wine for the occasion. It only happpens once.

Ha! Weird eh? My childhood Doc carried a black med bag also. We thought everything was in that bag to make us healthy again. LOL on the 17 years comment. :)

Hi Sweet Nel!! :D I haven't seen you in a while. I'm Happy that you are my Friend also and Glad to share. Thank you so much. Yes, I know they are. Best to you and Gordon and Penny. :)

WOW! Thank you Brian. I did not know that. :) I actually learn a lot from you.

You just make sure that you keep on going Mike. We'd like to keep you with us. :) Thirty-one years is a long time Sir. You are doing Good so far. Way to go Thank you!

So happy you had a great celebration, including wine!

I thought the same thing about the black bag. Know what? It is was true because I always felt better from whatever he pulled out of that magical med bag. We all need that same magic now.

Now I think it was just the placebo effect usually Gerri. Ha! I felt sorry for my Doc after one time I was Bad. :D I didn't want to go to grade school so I told my Mom that I had a sick stomach. She stuck a mercury thermometer in my mouth. Hmmm! I put the thermometer on the propane heater and took it off when I heard Mom coming back in. She had a fit and called the Doc when she saw the 107 F. My Doc came running. Stupid propane heater...or me. :D
