*Finally! I Hit My 50 Year D Anniversary Recently*!

Oh that was so thoughtful of you Nel. Thank you....and I appreciate Johns' Good wishes. :) Not to worry Hon. I understand his situation being elderly, Diabetic and having CHF on top. Tough times for sure. Plus he usually has difficulties wiith this site, especially if the topic isn't showing on the front page.

So wonderful! Congratulations!

SweetLady, thank you for the Congrats. Very Nice of you. :)

That is Sweet of you to say Aimee. Thank you! Yes, it has been a lot of years and a lot of struggles but I feel Good Diabetes-wise now. :)

Your Daughter is so Pretty. Bless her little heart. She resembles her Mommy for sure. I truly hope that she has an easier Lifetime with the D than I/we did. ;-)

Oh as of right now I still have about 12 years to go but I can't wait for it either!!!

Good for you Doris. Those years will pass fast(except for the last 3 months, they drag). You go Girl. Wishing you Well. :)

Well, I had a 70% chance of getting that right and I blew it. LOL! Since, some Moms of 7 year olds look Really young.
They are both Beauties and I can see that they love each other lots. That's Terrific that your 16 yr. old Daughter helps her little Sis which in turn helps you too. :) Yes, you and she are indeed Lucky. I am "hoping" along with you Aimee. Best Wishes! :)

Hi Guys and Gals! :)

Gerri had asked me to post a photo of my 50th D-Year medal when I received. Well, i didn't receive a medal. When I was at my Endos last, he said the company doesn't give out medals anymore, just Certificates. He said, "that was good enough", with a smile as he walked out the door.

Well yes, a Certificate is certainly Special and a nice piece of acknowledgement alright. But I was expecting a Medal...similar to Richard's and the Others. I left and decided to turn to plan B when I got the chance. Well, I never got the chance cuz my Certificate was delivered....

So was delivered....

Needless to say...I was shocked. When Novo Nordisk does something, they do it Big. I had a Good cry and I truly appreciate their kindness in making me and others the recipients of such a Perfect print by such a talented Artist, David Harrington. I Love my medal. :)

According to Mr. Harrington, there is a camouflaged picture of a Man and a Lady, both with 50 years of Diabetes. I believe I found them.

I got a lovely medal from Joslin for my 50th, which was Feb 2011. Who did you apply to?

Hi Annabella: :)

A Big Congrats to you on your 50th.

I didn't apply to anyone. My Endo did it all. What a huge surprise! I thought I'll be getting a medal or certficate which are both Terrific also. I thought he said he applied to CDA but no, it was Novo Nordisk.

I should mention the info supplied with the print says this winter scene was of the original Banting House (now Museum) was painted from the 1920-1921 era when Dr. Banting theorized about insulin to control Diabetes. There is a lot of thought put into it.

If you go to www.joslin.org, & search for Medals you will find all the info you need to apply. They also invite 50 year medalists to Boston to take part in their 50 year study, they are trying to identify reasons why some of us old timers have few complications. As I live on the west coast I declined, but you still get the medal.

Dearest Terrie ...reading about several wonderful surprises : 1 ) Novo's gift to a Special Lady living with d for more than 50 years !!! and 2 ) you are back here :)

Thanks for explaining about the print. I was wondering about that. Is lovely & meaningful. Yes, apply to Joslin to get your medal!

I finally plan to visit Banting House, London ON late summer ,2012 :) ...and hopefully no snow, however ON and BC had snow this week . Can we arrange a meet up in Toronto Terrie ? I will pm you , when I have more info available , OK ?

Yes, Richard mentioned to me about applying to Joslin years ago and was my plan B, if the first plan wasn't satisfactory. But I'm more than satisfied with the beautiful print(its much nicer in real life). I'll consider it again.

Oh thanks but as I said on this forum before, I'm quite certain that I'm not Special. I know for a fact that if I do not look after myself and my Diabetes...I will end up with complications like before. Same as my Brothers.

HaHa! Sorry that I confused you Gerri. I'll think about getting the medal. I didn't wast to be greedy. I wonder if anyone else received 2 or 3 items for their 50th. I don't know of any.

You young scally-wag!! You'd probably be a bad influence on me with your wild ways. Ha! kidding Nel! Would gordon be with you? Phil comes with me. I honestly don't usually travel too far from home usually because of my RA and I dislike travelling but we were to T.O and Kitchener one and 2 years back. Putting you and Banting house into the mix makes it more tempting. Yes, pm me then.

Where in Ontario has it snowed recently Nel? I missed it.

Oh Nel, you're a Sweetheart. :D Thanks!

Don't think it's being greedy. You've earned both.

Well, you are wiser than I(not kidding)Gerri, so I'm considering it now but it won't be for a while. I have other things to continue doing and more stuff coming up. Thank you for your kind words Girl. :)
