I guess this means that there’s no such thing as a free snack anymore?
You can always count on plain celery to be a free snack. Mmmm
(with tongue firmly planted in cheek!)
Oh, I don’t think I would bolus or combo bolus for small snacks. As always…it depends, right? Carbs I always bolus for but when it comes to other types of snacks…I guess you have to figure out what your system will tolerate. For myself, there are snacks for which I don’t do an extended bolus or any bolus at all. For example, my system just doesn’t seem to “register” a mixed salad. And I can get away with a cheese stick, a T. of peanut butter, celery with p.b. or cream cheese, and more. So you just have to experiment.
Truthfully, though, being on low carb, I don’t snack too much cuz I don’t get hungry. Not experiencing hunger is a wonderful thing.
Celery? More like torture than a snack, but yeah, unless I was in the higher range of normal or more, I wouldn’t bother. But I couldn’t get away with a hard boiled egg or a salad, only if I was hanging around the lower BGLs or I was going to do something in the low-activity range.
I also don’t do any extended boluses for the breakfasts I usually have, but I do have to bolus just for a couple of eggs.
It’s so individual, isn’t it?
“free” is one of those weight watcher terms that non-diabetics use…if the calorie count is less than 25, it’s not simple sugar, and it’s not eaten during nap time, your BG is probably going to stay pretty stable. Be careful - if I were to snack at the same time every day my liver would anticipate the schedule. Celery sauteed in butter anyone?
