find that while my numbers are better, i am gaining weight on levemir. only 3 weeks into it and have already gained a few pounds. the reason i switched from lantus was because i felt that it was holding me back from weight loss. i have been working in NYC at an internship and have had less time to exercise (aside from my 20 minute walk from the bus). Today is my last day so i plan to get back to my regular jogging routine which may lead to less insulin…should i wait and see how cutting my dose works? or should i switch back to lantus? I eat very very low carb.
just wondering if anyone has any similar experiences or advice
Hmm, sorry I don’t have any experience w/ Lantus or Levimir, only N. If you cut back on running significantly, I would guess that would be a likely contributor? I think I run up a couple of days before races because I slack off on the miles to save it for "showtime.
How are your BG? If you are eating more to keep from running low, I’d try cutting back 10% to see what would happen but watch it closely. It might just be the moving/working/ life change stuff? I think I gained about 7 lbs in NYC when we visited last week…urp!
thanks for the response! my sugars are good most days. i heard through various sources that levemir does not contribute to weight gain so i think i was giving myself very generous doses and maybe the change has caused me to put on a few pounds. im not sure. i hope it leaves my system soon. once i start exercising i should be able to cut the dose bak down. hope you had a good time in NY
I’ve been on Levemir for three years without gaining weight. Hated Lantus. I’d wait to see how getting back to your usual exercise schedule works. Good numbers are the most important, but understand how you feel about gaining weight.
Yes they claim that levemir is better than lantus for weight loss I never found that to be true. I would use the one that is cheapest for you. and yes too much basal will result in weight gain.
As usual, we differ when it comes to treatments and affects thereof. Lantus and Levemir both worked/work Well for me and I haven’t gained any weight from any Insulin that I have been on. I am on Levemir now. According to Holger(who’s opinion I respect…and Gerri’s ), the working process is different, Better and more suitable to the Human body.
