Last night was the first night I had my Medtronic Guardian CGM in and running. It beeped at me twice, once to let me know of a predicted low and second to complain that it lost it’s sensor. I told a friend of mine about how the night went and she said you should give IT a name. I said to myself " you know that makes sence. We name things all the time. Why not give IT a name. This thing will be a life long companion that I will take with me everywhere." So I ask you all out there in TUDiabetes land do any of you all have names for your pump or CGM? Or can you help me come up with a name for my CGM?
I don’t have a name for my pump…,but my baby sister calls it El Novio ( the boyfriend ) Everytime i visit or if we are on the phone my boyfriend is dinging lol…my sis always says your boyfriend is a real pain in the A**…But this is one boyfriend i Can’t live without… Good Luck on finding a name…
Hi Anthony. Good luck w/ you CGMS…I too just started up on the Medtronic for a trial. It alerted me to several lows that I had not felt coming on:) I will have to think about the name…it is a good idea, because we will be spending a lot of time together! I hope the new Omnipod will have Dex CGMS built in…then, if I switch, I will only have to think of 1 name:) I am trying the Medtronic because I have their pump and sensor transmitter. I really like the extra info I am getting…let us know how your experience is going over the next few days. I will check back to share as well. Maybe I will have thought of a good name by then:)
Cyrus Gizmodo Mandicot. “Dex” for short.
Terry
I call mine the Random number generator…
Not a proper name but in the beginning it was right on…
Ken
I call my OmniPod PDM Mr. Ed. I have no idea why…maybe because I liked that show when I was little, or that I like horses? Now when my Pod goes off, I tell my husband to go get Mr. Ed…
Well, it’s a pump, so I call it a pump.
My pump started off as Fred. I don’t know where it came from, but I think because I had no friends with that name. It was great when talking about it in public. I did it so often that people thought I had a kid. Fred needs to be changed, Fred is throwing a fit, etc. Then Fred died and Fred Jr. came along. Now on my 5th pump, my pump is now known simply as Junior. Since Junior has a CGMS sidekick now, the super duo really can throw tantrums. Still, when referring to Junior in public it is quite funny when thinking about … Junior really kept me up last night, Junior won’t stop vibrating, Junior isn’t in range. LOL
Finally! Yes, I do–well—I named my pancreas Patty. It cracks me up to think of a moody freeloader, in the form of a pancreas. Makes diabetes a bit more fun. My friends and I made a whole personality for Patty. Cracks me up. Still haven’t names my pump though…thoughts?
Betsy! LOL i dont know ive never named my pump either :o\ but it is food for thought! Maybe i will call it “Kit” as in knight rider because i have the ping and they link up like kit and haslehoff lol
I like this. A lot.
Ha ha i thought i was the only one… i have a dexcom and just call it Dex for short. In the beginning my girlfriend wanted to call it a off the wall name that i didnt like but Dex has grown on her. Getting a pump next month so looks like i need to get a name book lol
My pump is named Lucia and the dexcom is Pleco for Plecostomos (the sucker fish…cause that’s what these stickers remind me of, or leeches). I was calling the pump with infusion set Lucia and Pleco but with an added gadget stuck on me decided to just name the pump and cgm.
i call my cgm POS
How about Lucy or another name from the Peanuts cartoon? Then you can refer to them as an entity by calling them the peanut gallery.
