Need something other than cheese & organic peanut butter with flax seed added to have with fruit that will slow the carb burn and hopefully add some protein. calories are not a problem. Can any body help?
I eat cottage cheese with my fruit in the morning or do you think of that as cheese?
I saw in Women's Health mag that prosciutto can help. It's so tasty with melon, pears, or apples! :)
Try Greek Yogurt. Lots of protein. Try to avoid the non fat type. I just found a Cabot brand that is full fat. Very creamy. I use it in place of sour cream, use it to make dip for veggies. I also will add vanilla and cut up berries and a little sweetener. This makes a great snack with all the requirements. I have issues with some dairy, but nonewith this. It also has a healthy dose of acidophilus for the digestive tract.
I thank all of you for your answers: cottage cheese I do consider a cheese and already eat @ 3-4 oz day, the prosciutto I have to learn something about and already have a cup of the yogurt a day with my grains.
I don't really eat fruit much at all anymore, but fat can clearly slow down the digestion and effectively reduce the glycemic index of fruit. It doesn't change the overall carb load, but it does slow down the digestion.
So to add to the contributions, let me offer my recipe for my own HomeMade ICE CREAM!,made from heavy cream, it is almost totally carb free and has tons of good fat.
We pair fruit with nuts (cashews, almonds, pistachios) to slow the affect. And for a little change try dark chocolate almond nut butter, if you haven't already. It is delish!!
