Hi everyone,
There has been a lot of negative posts about omnipod. He have had some issues but overall we have been happy. Jacob is about 5 months into using the omnipod. We just came back from a week in Vermont, our first needleless vaca, swimming without issues, hiked a mountain without lows with a 50% reduction in basal and successful occasional dinners out and icecream with multliple boluses pre post and extention with success! Jacob had one prolonged high following a misestimation on a snack and pod change, but other than that diabetes management took a back burner to our family fun. I just do not want to discourage other individuals or families thinking of trying or just starting with the omnipod, tech support has been ok, good with the product. As we all know, we are the brians and “doctors” on constant duty. Just wanted to share a good experience. Good luck to all.
We had some issues this vacation…but most of them were…well… candy induced…or he just majorly over worked the pod on the seadoo… lots and lots of jiggling. I imagine any pump would have had the same issues he had. One thing interesting I think I am begining to see as a possible reason some people have so many fails and others do not… I filled two of his pods…they both failed… I am not good at filling them… when he fills them they rarely fail… when I do… they seem to always fail. So how slowly you pull in the insulin… and how well you get the bubbles out…really matters. I told him… .I won’t fill them any more… I am too much of a novice. He adds air to the bottle w/the needle first to “presurize it” then w/the bottle in the upside down position he puts the needle in the bottle so all the air is up top… then he lets the pressurization slowly fill the seringe on its own… pulling back slowwwwwwwwly after it stops…then he is very slow at putting it into the pod. This technique seems to work great.
Glad to hear you had a great time on your vacation!
I can’t say enough good things about the omnipod. Such a great product.
