Today is our superstar member @Richard157’s birthday!!! What makes Richard a superstar? A lot of things Among them are the fact that he has been living and thriving with type 1 diabetes for 70 years. WOW!! Diagnosed in 1945, long before so much of the technology that many of us take for granted today, Richard has shared his story with his TuDiabetes community and the greater DOC, and published an autobiographical book!
I wish you a wonderful, wonderful birthday, my friend!!!
when I joined TuDiabetes in 2008, Richard was just starting to post his diabetes story, in chapters. Every day I would log on, eager to see the next chapter, and whenever he posted one, I’d stop whatever I was doing to read it. It was one of the reasons I felt TuDiabetes was the community I was looking for.
A very happy birthday indeed @Richard157! I’ve really enjoyed your posts–so valuable to have your long perspective from the earliest era of insulin therapy to the present. It’s a cliche to say but it is true: you are an inspiration.
The chapters Emily posted were the foundation for my book published in March, 2010. Much revision was needed, along with many pictures, before publication.
