How about a slogan

I know breast cancer have a few (Run for the Cure, Whyme? etc and the pink ribbon.) Are there similiar things for diabetes? Also, how about a site slogan for this site. I don’t have any ideas (my profession is the Canadian equivalent of the CPA), as I more analytical than creative but I am sure there are many creative types on the site who will have great ideas. What do you think?

Great stuff, what about "Life is Sweet ", with all of us running around wearing syringe outfits, or big massive pumps or insulin vials.

  1. Changing lives , one step at a time ( Team Diabetes Canada ) . 2) Diabetes: Get Serious ( Canadian Diabetes Association ) .3) IDF has a Hummingbird logo . 4) diabetes has a grey ribbon I recall …same here not ceative …others have thought of the 4 I mentioned some time ago

There are similar slogans out there for diabetes. I notice diabetic bumper stickers and T-shirts. Also, Diabetes TalkFest has an ongoing Diabetes T-Shirt slogan contest. For some great slogans and a chance to be the April contest winner of a T-shirt, visit: http://www.diabetestalkfest.com/tshirtslogans.php">http://web.archive.org/web/20050406001219/http://www.diabetestalkfe… .

Some of my favorite slogans from that contest site (I don’t have an original thought in my head!):

Diabetes Is Not For Sissies!
I’m Too Sweet To Eat Candy
My Dad [husband] Says Today I’m A Type %&*@!!!
If My Blood Sugar Was Any Higher, You Could Put Me In Coffee!
If You Find Me Confused, Wondering Or Acting Strangely Offer Me Fruit Juice.
Cure Diabetes Today
BG Control Freak!
In Control: I Can A1c The Difference!
Not Tonight Dear - I’m Over 200
Diabetics Are Sweeter
Diabetic: Gimme Sugar And No One Gets Hurt!

(Emphasis added by me.)

The replies from Josephine and Lucile K. made me laugh. I was sure there had to be slogans, etc. out there for diabetes that I was not aware of. I am also a breast cancer survivor and I find that diabetes certainly does not have the level of exposure or the type of public profile that breast cancer does. After reading some of the discussion threads I think part of the problem maybe the idea that diabetics bring it on themself. That kind of thinking needs to change, I know the perception on breast cancer has changed drasticly from women not even mentioning the C word to even their families to the current high profile and this change is due to members of the breast cancer community and a big part of it came from the pink ribbon campaign that was modelled on the AIDS red ribbon campaign. I think something that will create a similiar change in the profile of diabetes in the public mind needs to happen. What is meaning of the name of this site? Also, I since I love my coffee (I take it black) I really like the slogan about being able to put me in coffee. I’ve heard something similar …I have to paraphrase…“I’m so sweet just being around me might give you a cavity.”

Thanks Carlacaramel for the laugh. “I’m so sweet just being around me might give you a cavity” is a winner.
I’ll take two T-shirts and three bumper stickers with that slogan.

“if you find me confused, wondering or acting strangely offer me a fruit juice” hahaha soo funny and sooo true for me!!

Here is a site I found with diabetes ribbons.

Yes, they are grey.

Samantha , I wish I would know, how to get that information from google to " here " as you did .Are you willing to mentor /coach me ?? Not savvy Nel .

I really didn’t think it was going to work Nel. But it did!

  1. Type the word you want to make the link (mine word was here)
  2. Highlight the website address from the bar on top and right click to copy.
  3. Go back to your ‘word’ and highlight it.
  4. Click on the link on top of TuD’s reply box. Looks like part of a chain up there…
  5. You will get a box to pop up and you past the website address from #2 in it and click ok.

On your screen it will look like a buch of crap. But, when you post it, it will just be your ‘word’ underlined. You can leave me stuff on my home page if you would like to test it out…

Luck

Chuck norris thinks you should use brass knuckles in the fight to cure diabetes

Samantha …thank you , oh my this sounds complicated and too late to try tonight …stay tuned.N.

Samantha …I tried, and tried …what I need is someone to sit next to me and do the " show and tell " …will work on this one day  …again THANK YOU …N.

When I went to diabetes camp as a kid the slogan on the backs of our shirts was “I can handle it!”. And that slogan does pop into my head every now and again when I’m getting flustered over something diabetes related (like infusion change outs)!

I think a cute advertising/PR campaign would do us some good. I’ve seen a lot of cute stuff coming out for breast cancer - reusable grocery bags with proceeds from the sales going to a breast cancer foundation, etc.

Oh! And a lot of cute names - anyone ever hear of “Save the Ta-tas”? I’ve been seeing their stickers on some cars in my area more and more lately and can’t help but smile.

If only he would stare at diabetes and tell it to “knock it off”.
