Hi,
I am new with the pump and my biggest problem with it seems to be where to put it.
If I wear it on my pant loop or attached to my pocket, I always knock it off. I seem to forget it is there and when I bring groceries in or am cooking or cleaning it gets knocked off. Next thing i know it is hanging from the tubing. Last night it ripped everything out and I had to re-do the entire thing. I dont wear granny under attire so that does not work either. Also, what about when you wear dresses or other evening attire? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Susie
Hi, I have had a pump for six years and went through the same process. With experimenting you will find the best ways for you. I still have occasional pull outs, usually from a kitchen drawer handle, a door knob at home, or brushing up against the site through the clothes. That one always surprises me. In the beginning I bought these elastic bands that had a little pocket attached and velcro for fastening. One for the waist and one for the thigh. I also wrapped the waist one around my arm or maybe it was the thigh one. Anyway I got them mostly for sleeping. Now I just lay the pump next to me and it moves with me, pretty much. It has gotten stuck under my partner a few times but that usually wakes me up enough to follow the tubing and find its location. At work I wear slacks with a belt so I use the hard plastic holder and tuck as much of my tubing as is comfortable into my waist. That reduces the chances of getting caught on stuff. On occasion I put it in my back pocket of my jeans. I know some women use their bra to hold the pump but that usually means you need a remote to use it or go the restroom every time you need insulin. I would be the some of the carriers for the ipod or other mp3 players have good substitutes for pockets. I hope this has helped some. Since you posted in Nov. I am guessing you have already figured out some stuff yourself.
Good luck, anna
HI;
I’VE BEEN WEARING A PUMP FOR A COUPLE YEARS NOW, WHEN I WEAR A DRESS I PUT MY PUMP IN MY BRA OR IF I’M WEARING THIGH HIGH HOSE, I PUT THE PUMP IN THE TOP OF THE HOSE.
I HOPE THIS HELPS
DEBI
Where I attach my pump.
Shower: Attached to “dog tag” chain.
Day wear: Clipped to belt or belt line of trouser
Military. Front pocket of uniform to protect pump from being banged about.
PT: Clipped to right side belt line of running shorts.
Bicycling: Same as PT.
Evening & Sleep: Clipped to front R/Side on boxer shorts to permit rolling over without discomfort.
Swimming: Same as shower.
Diving (SCUBA) Disconnect, remove and stow.
For you, (Female) when wearing a dress, consider a sew in pocket on the inside of dress for your pump, or pick up a soft neoprene belt (Check Animas website) with pouch for pump. Ideal for sleep wear as well. Do not connect pump to belt look as it rides quite unsecured there as you well know. Happy pumping!
I usually keep my pump in my underwear! I wear the cotton kind from Victorias Secrets. They seem to hold it in pretty well. However, I do find that sometimes it slips a little lower that I am comfortable with. This works pretty well with whatever I have on, dresses, skirts and such. The other place I keep my pump is just in the front pocket of my jeans. I cut a hole on the inside of the pocket and run the tube through the inside of my pants so there is no tubing showing. It keeps it from getting caught on things.

I am relatively new at pumping and this was an issue for me too. I find the best place to wear my pump is in the center of my bra. I don’t bump into things and the tubing is safe under my shirt. With dresses it can be trickier as I can’t always wear it in the center of my bra. I have tried the thigh thing (HATED IT, the pump kept falling through and dangling between my legs). I am looking for a garter belt that has a pump pocket now as that was suggested to me as a better alternative than the thigh thing.
A baby sock and a safety pin under a skirt can usually work in a pinch
For me, I use the thigh holder. It fits tight on my leg, so that’s not a problem. Also if you wear thigh highs the pump fits very comfortably inside the top.
Hey,
You have come up with some of my ideas. I’ve been pumping about 8 years and just recently decided that a pump on one side hanging from my belt and cell phone on the other was getting old. I made a button hole on the inside of a lower pocket in an old pair of cargo pants - it works great. Thinking a little further (you can’t wear cargo pants ever day), I came up with this idea. I have sewn a small pocket onto a few pairs of underwear. The pocket is in the front on the left of the fly (men’s underwear, of course). I’ve searched and cannot find anything like that for sale. If you are going to pump in public it is a good idea to have your Animas meter handy for launching a bolus; it just doesn’t work to try to sneak the pump out to program it!

I’m on my 4th year with the pump and wear it on my jeans pocket almost all the time. I got SO frustrated to the point of going of my pump for about 5 months because of it getting knocked off in one way or another. But I had an old plastic clip/holder for it and it did NOT work. Now they’ve got a metal one that I LOVE. It’ll still come off from time to time, but I think its just a hazard of wearing something 24/7.
Update: I found this link to the perfect solution (for men at least): http://www.mykpp.com/index.html
I ordered one pair of the Kangaroo Pump Pocket underwear to test them out and they are really comfortable and do the job better than I could hope for. Now, I’m planning to order more.
I have been pumping for about 10 years now. Probably 7 or 8 of them have been with the Animas. I keep my pump in a baby sock in my bra. I get the newborn socks at Kohls. The regular baby socks have too much material left over. The newborn socks work perfect for me or I use the leather case that came with my pump and clip it to the waist band of my jeans or a pocket.
At first I just used the belt clip, but then my pump got really banged up and the paint even started to chip (i have the green 2020 pump). I later found out that it was a bad batch of paint and Animas would replace my pump at no charge. Sooo, since i have my new, unscratched, non-paint peeling pump, I try my best to keep it in the black case that it came with. I find it rather large and I don’t like how it clips onto my belt horizontally. I much prefer the belt clip (less bulk, and it clips vertically… which means that the tubing can just go straight up under your shirt, less likely to catch on something, etc).
I use the belt clip while i’m sleeping though, and I just clip it on to the back of my pajama pants - only effective if you’re a belly sleeper like me =] & then I just tuck the tubing into my pants.
& shower… I just disconnect my pump entirely & put the little shower clip into my site.
I wear jeans a lot of the time, so I usually clip it to the front pocket of my jeans. I’ve never gotten a tube hung up on anything. I wrap the tube (23") around my finger to make circles then tuck it in which keeps it in place pretty well. If I wear dress pants I clip it to the waist of pants. When I’ve worn a dress, I clipped it between “the girls” or to my the waistband of my panty hose. When I sleep I clip it to my pj pants.
Hello,
Going for the pump next month. Diabetic for 18 years, injections. Button hole idea caught my attention! Good idea. How about a button hole above shirt pocket. Area where you would wear a pin. Have a large button type pin fasten to the back of the pump. Push pump button through the button hole from the inside of the shirt. All you would see is a fancy looking button on your shirt. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Sid
would a jock-strap work?
