How does your A1c make you feel/whats your story?

i just saw my endo this week. i see him every three months unless i need a pump tweeking. last visit and MANY before, my A1c levels were in the high 8s. i do what i can to eat right, stay active. i dont smoke or drink.

anyway, my A1c at this visit was 6. OMG!!!!!!!

i felt like a million bucks. do you have any idea how hard i have worked to achieve something like this?

Way to go Daisy Mae!! Mine usually makes me feel pretty good too! It sort of wastes doctors appointments though, as she goes "you're doing great, any questions?" and that's about it.

Makes you feel great doesn’t it. Suddenly all the effort seems worthwhile. Good job.

well done on a fab a1c! last time i went i had a good one to and i walked out all bouncy after my endo congratulated me. its a good "gold star" feeling.

I think that is great, but you are not a number. I celebrate all the work you have done to control your blood sugar. The number doesn't matter, but the effort does.

My A1c usually makes me feel frustrated. I've tried to stop looking at it as a number and start looking at whether it's going up/down.

i stopped eating white bread (white flour). stopped eating oatmeal in the AM for breakfast and replaced it with eggs and multi-grain toast, no more pasta, no more bites of my husbands cookies before bed, more walking (active), no more forgetting to eat lunch (even if i am not hungry)( i set up an alarm on my pump which reminds me to eat something every afternoon).no red meat, less chicken and more fish. the funny thing is, i dont miss much of it. well, i do kind of miss the cookies..i am eating a lot of greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and at least one banana a day (i had been having terrible leg cramps, and someone on this forum suggested i needed potassium)
my legs feel great now. so some eat an apple a day, i eat a banana a day.

I agree with you Jen. I say all the time that we all have different levels of difficulty managing our numbers, so one person may expect to always be in the 5's while for another person getting under 8 is a major accomplishment.

The A1C isn't a be all and end all, it's just another marker. A number is just a number, what matters is how we are doing as well as how we feel about how we are doing in many different areas of our D life.

A1c is like a blip on the computer screen, a photo of how you were doing over the last 8 weeks or so. For me I cut out flour entirely and pasta, and went from an 8.2 to a 6.5. This is amazing for me. I have had diabetes 50 years and have only been in the 6s once. And I agree with the person who said, stop looking at it as a number and look at whether it’s going up or down. Before 8.2 it was 8.4, so it had gone down. The issue is A1c can turn into a thing to beat yourself up over or if you get a good number, pressure to maintain it. I’m of the if it works, don’t fix it stage… and progress, not perfection, kind of school.
