~565 is the highest I recall. Now on Tresiba doing much better but was 250 this morning fasting. 18 units of Tresiba
Not sure but my doctor seemed freaked when I was given the diagnosis.
487 if I recall correctly, a couple days after diagnosis… though that was tested with a one touch so it could have actually been anywhere between 150 and 1,000
I’ve gone to 600+ several times (meter could not give me an exact reading as it just displayed HIGH). I have no idea how high I was when I was diagnosed, though, I could have been higher than that.
Didn’t know meters did that.
Back in 2011 I had a FBG test with a result of 289, so I got a call from my doctor’s office to go to the lab for an A1c test (the first one in my life) and the result was 11.5. I knew that meant I was diabetic, but I was unable to get an appointment with my doctor to get an official diagnosis for three weeks. So I got a glucometer and started testing on my own. The highest I got on my own diet without meds was in the 300s.
Then I saw the doctor, she misdiagnosed me as type 2, put me on metformin and gave me a diet to follow. Her diet had far more carbs than I was accustomed to eating and I got a BG of 548 two days in a row! Needless to say, I discarded that diet fast!
At Dx, a random BG was 309. FBG the next day was 292, and A1c was 11.8. Took a long time before I even got as high as that 309 again – and then, only once, when my BG hit 340.
Haven’t seen anything higher and hope I never do
457 at diagnosis. post diagnosis after everything was under control, one time not too long ago i got to 380. entirely my fault.
Keep in mind that I was untreated for a while as the Dr bounced me around (about a month) but after finding sugar in my urine I was given a meter to use (not trained to use it) …my numbers were in the 500-600 range and I thought I was using it wrong…turns out the A1C supported the numbers and the rest is history…YES I WAS VERY VERY Sick and suggest that anyone with such results get to the ER and not play around waiting on Dr appointments and lab results …it is a very dangerous range. FYI - I still spike to the mid 300 to low 400 on rare occasions when I’m sick, have a bad stick or my GP is suddenly releasing all carbs for the past days into my system…
If your fasting is 250, are you planning on adjusting your basal dosage?
Today I was 160 fasting so not sure don’t want to up the insulin
No idea what it was at diagnosis but I have been in the 400’s usually due to some kind of infusion problem. Don’t see numbers that high much now with CGM.
Back in my teens, it wasn’t uncommon for me to see readings above 20.0 mmol/ml
I honestly can’t recall the hightest I’ve had, I believe it was around 28 or 29.
Thankfully, these days I rarely see it go above 10.
Why not?
I gained 16 pounds in two weeks from day I started lantus. Was switched to tresiba at week 3 and go to see doctor jan 12 endo so just started insulin oct 18 and want to see what endo says. Not sure how much to increase tresiba at this point maybe 1-2 units per day? Kind of scary for me
Are you afraid of going low?
Yes!
I suspect it would take a pretty large dosage increase for you to go low, based on the BGs you mention in this thread. Personally, I would be more concerned about being that high for that long. What’s your target BG? Your ISF? I:C? Having tight control means going low sometimes.
Basal adjustments are safe if you do them in small increments. Adjust, evaluate, re-adjust.
I imagine with Tresiba, you would want to wait at least 2 days between adjustments so you can be sure you are evaluating the “new” basal amount correctly.
If you are only using Tresiba for basal, it would not be surprising if your morning fasting BG is higher than your daytime fasting BG. Many people have a higher basal need at night. So in the morning your BG could easily be higher because of that…
I’d recommend at least 7 days between tresiba adjustments short of a real emergency
I used to recommend 3-5 but everyone saw that and figured if 3-5 is good 1-2 must be better and there was a lot of tailspin I observed… maybe if I recommend 7 days people will at least give it 3-5— I’d consider that an absolute bare minimum
