How often do you change you lancet?

You can change 'em? I thought you just threw the lancet device away and got a new one every 2 or 3 years…

It’s pretty rare… I know, I know, it’s just wrong!!!

Keep Going…Peace, Bob

I try to do it every other day, but most the time I use it until it hurts…lol.

you can change it?

I change it about once a week

I change my lancet after every use.

Me too, but then I get them free.

I am new to all this, but I thought it was supposed to be everyday! That’s why we get so many from our drug stores. To use them. Reading what ya’ll wrote in this forum, I think you are all being bad!!! Change that lancet more often. I know after i have been doing this for a long time period, I’ll be just like you. LOL
But seriously, how often are they supposed to be changed?
Kathy

I can take mine to any fire department, they take them as long as they are in a container. I use old milk jugs. Good luck! Kathy

For years, I changed them every test. Then, a nurse told me I could use one all day. So, I did that for a while. Then, I got slack. I don’t know how long I went. I may have gone weeks, at one point, but I block that memory, so I can’t personally vouch for my slackness.

Now, I’m back to once per day, but I test 8-10 times per day, so it’s still a lot of uses.

I use a new lancet everytime. I hold the lancet in my hand like a pencil and poke myself. I feel like I control the pain a little better and it saves room because I got rid of my lancing device and keep my insulin pen in that middle area.

wow, thanks guys now I don’t feel so bad. I haven’t changed mine for months!!!

Not as often as I should. I tend to wait till it doesn’t seem to work as well.

I always forget to change mine, until it hurts. :frowning:

When it hurts so bad I say ok time to change.

I think I change mine every few weeks–when it hurts or I can’t squeeze any blood out even after poking every finger on my left hand. Twice. Someone suggested changing it when you change your infusion site (for pump users). I’m going to try that.

It’s so nice to know most of us wait months before changing. I do the same thing. When it hurts, when it gets dirty, when someone else wants their sugar checked.

I just checked, and I’m still working on a box dated 1999…

i used to change it just once a day.
now i change it about 3 times a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
but not for the tests in between.
i’m trying to use them up cuz i have a llllot of extra lancets.

Seems like I am the odd man out here. I change it every single time I test. It never even occurred to me to do otherwise. The few times I accidentally forgot to turn the knob on the lancet device (I use the Aviva Accu Check drum which contains 5 lancets in one drum) and pricked my finger with a used lancet I felt wrong about it.

Mine’s dated 2001 and still half full…

I change my lancets every time, unless I ran out and I ma not anywhere near the drugstore. Then I douse it with alcohol, and use it again.
