How often do you get a new pump?

Kind of a vague question, but I have noticed a few member stating they have a few pumps. This leads me to believe that either thier insurance covers a new pump every _ years. Im just curious about this. I know a lady who has had her pump for 5-ish years. I have had mine since October of 2009. I wasnt planning on replacing it, its working fine, but my portion of the pump cost was $400 or so. Thats a not chump change, but for peace of mind…

Depends on your financial and insurance situation. All pumps are under full warranty for four years. Most insurances will replace after that with whatever co-pay yours has.
You can usually get a ‘rebate’ of a couple hundred dollars (don’t know what it is now) if you return the old pump after getting a new one. Some keep the old pump as a spare for “just in case” if the new one gets a glitch.

Some people are willing to pay the several hundred dollars it costs to upgrade early for a new version. But check out what that does to the warranty. There is something about it that I can’t recall right now. It may start over or may still be the original warranty and does not restart.

Those of us on Medicare must wait 5 years (one year post warranty) to get a new pump they will pay for (and hopefully your supplement insurance.)

Some are fine with whatever pump they have as long as it works. There are folks who keep their pump for 5 to 7 years at least. If it works, then it is still good. I don’t think the new pumps (with tubing) have really great changes from version to version. I am at 4 years 8 months on my Paradigm 715 and it works like a top–great. Knock on wood! Others like to have the newest pump as soon as it is off the shelf.

People have their own preferences as you will see as they respond! Oh, and this is for the U.S. Not sure about nearby Canada.

I have 2 pumps my insurance pays for new one every 4 yrs and so I had the cosmo then switched to mini med had the 722 but upgraded which meant I had to send it in to get my Revel which I needed it has smaller dosing and really helped improvd my dosing if it wern’t for the dosing I would have stuck with my 722. I still have my cosmo and keep it for whatever reason but that is why i have 2 pumps

Ive only had 2 pumps and I think I returned the last one for me MM 722.

Sorry to hijack but, How is the dosing smaller on the reveal?

I’ve been on the pump(mini-med) 9 yrs.My first one started to act up after 3 yrs so I got a new one then. Another 2-3 yrs and an upgrade, and another upgrade 2-3 yrs after that.Once I get my insurnce in October I plan on going to see an endo and trying to get the new revel with the CGM.

the revel has 0.025 basal increments and 0.025 bolus increments I think is the difference with the 722 had .05 I think?

Well I think it also depends on how Active you are… how rough you are with it, etc…Job occupation, Sports activities, etc…
my Brother goes thru 1 about every couple of Yrs… They give him Recondition ones as replacements
I would set up a Budget plan to have the $ for the next one… min over 4 yrs, saving $10/mo= $480 or you may want to even save more. They’re going up in priceas more Bells and Whistles are added…

and if want a CGM? Ck on what it would cost you and add that to your Savings Budget… Not sure how long they last , have to ask the others…

Jenn is right the 722 doses at .050 and the revel doses at .025 which was a big difference for me. I use about 25 - 30 units total a day and this smaller dosing has really cut down on my lows and also helped with fine tuning my insulin needs as well as my BG numbers.

With the mini med CGM since it is all in one you pay an extra 1000 for the trasmitter and then for the sensors every month the transmitter is covered for 9 months i beleive I just had to replace mine for a new one. My mini med pumps really do take a good beating in my job as I am a medic and firefighter so it is subjected to all kinds of temps. and weather and bumps and what not and so that is why I like mini med I know it is built to last lol another guy in my fire company just switched to mini med from the ping as mine out lasted his.
