Idea for cool exchange site

so what would happen if I started a swap site for diabetic supplies?

I know there could be issues for selling old medical devices, but what if it were a free site, where you could give and get what you need??

Hell I have 500$ of not out of date Novolog, that I could swap for xxx

BTW, Dexcom told me they would NOT be selling any old sensors at all, I thought they might for a reduced price or something....

You mean expired sensors? Dexcom will be selling Seven Plus sensors for many months to come…

I like the idea of the site though. I just imagine there could some legal hurdles exchanging prescription drugs.

You would probably get some regulator or law enforcement agent on your case for swapping anything that requires a prescription. Meters and strips should be OK.

yes, hmmm… by the way I am a physician, I COULD provide the prescription aspect, then I’d have to make it a membership site, as long as I’m not prescribing controlled substances, it shouldn’t be an issue… hmmm… food for thought… that would be potentially a lot of work on my part, prescriptions for swapped items…

and not to mention issue of potential heat/cold during transport of insulin, that would be a big problem...

May get in trouble prescribing for someone you have not had face-to-face interaction with. May required video conferencing as an out. I know of one prescriber in my neighborhood (100 mile circle) whose license was pulled for "telemedicine" before the was such a thing. We would need to be careful with the group.

I'd suggest donating unused supplies to your healthcare team. I donated some expired sensors that they were able to use for demonstration/practice. In exchange, they have often had samples of infusions sets, meters, etc, they provided to me.

I know in some cases, they can offer donated supplies to those in need, or to trial a new product before having to purchase it.
