Ideas for a diabetes app eBook!

Hello everyone! I've been type 1 diabetic for about 15 years now and I've decided to write an ebook on mobile apps for diabetics. I've used several different apps myself, but I'm looking for some ideas for my ebook. I'm trying to find the top 6 or so apps for Android, iPhone, and iPad.

What are the best apps out there? Any ideas about what I could include in the ebook?

I'm really excited to get this project going, and I would appreciate ANY help or suggestions anyone can offer! Thanks.

I use apps but I don't use a diabetes app... mainly because my tester does all the "apping" i need. However I use the app greader to keep track of what's going on in the TuD world. I also use an app called Lose it! that helps me keep track of my food intake, calculate carbs and my weight. I wish it had an option for tracking insulin intake as well, but I don't know if the developers would care for that.

Windows Phone 7 is missing in your list. Of course I would suggest the Glucosurfer App of our Glucosurfer project - available for Windows Phone 7 and Android.

Our app can handle glucose in mmol/L or mg/dL and carbs in weight or exchange units. It can calculate the IOB and offers a Bolus Wizard that will account for glucose, carbs, physical activity and IOB. That all paired with a nice analysis.

I have tried several Android aps, and found them clunky. My pump and CGM do most of the work. I do use Go Meals for restaurant foods.

Here is thing, though. First I order the food. Then I test my glucose. Then I look up the food on Go Meals. Then I bolus based on glucose and carbs. Guess what? My food is cold.

Especially with fast food, I tend to eat the same thing all the time, as I know how it works for me.

The other aps I have tried for diabetes have been deleted.

Thanks for the info, and great isight! You said that you have tried other apps. Which other ones have you tried?

Have you used traditional logbooks before? There are diabetes logbook apps out there that help you track insulin dosage and blood sugar as well. One thing I would like to touch on in my ebook is how these apps can turn your phone or mobile device into a virtual logbook.

Thanks for the info about Lose it! I'll definitely check it out!

Thanks for the suggestion Holger! I hadn't even thought of windows phone apps. I would love to get more info on this app if you'd like to send it my way! My email address is tayvansickle@gmail.com. Thanks!

Thanks Garethc! What do you like about the app? What made you choose this one rather than others? Have you used other apps before? Any additional information would be great!!
