I'm new to Omnipod... I've been a Medtronic Paradigm user for about 7 years and switched last week because I was tired of dealing with all the tubing... The last two pods I've had looked like they were bleeding! Is this normal? The window that lets me view the cannula gets a little fogged up (not sure if that's right either) and then i notice some blood. When I removed my last pod, the site didn't look all that bad and it wasn't hurting me or anything so if it's not a big deal, I'd hate to waste a perfectly good pod, but does the bleeding mean I should switch it out? It almost looks like clear liquid (I'm hoping it's just my insulin escaping) with blood... Any suggestions?
we guide treatment of a bloody canula by pain and blood sugars, if Jacobs bs's are rising for no reason there is probably a partial occlusion, if it is really hurting him which is rare he will change it if his numbers stay good we just let it go, this has happened a lot less with the newer pods. oh fog is normal especially when it is hot out or after a shower. the sites usually are a bit red and irritated after removal but no infections here. best wishes to you and best of luck podding! amy
I've had tons of bleeders that had no ill effect on my blood glucose levels, and nothing worth worrying over regarding the site itself. I may get a mark that takes a little longer to go away, for example.
I hope are enjoying your OmniPod otherwise!
Happens every so often to me and I don`t bother to change it unless the bg goes up for no reason or it just really hurts.
Also everytime I shower I get a foggy window, no worries.
My daughter has had an infected site only once, characterized by pretty bad pain while bolusing (the insulin was pushing the infection into her bloodstream). We've also had a few partial occlusions, which we figured out from crazy high BGs that wouldn't go down. So I would follow the advice of others who commented before me. If you're in pain, especially when bolusing, then change it out. If not, and your BGs are OK, then let it go until your 3 days are up.
Thank you so much for the responses, I really appreciate it
My blood sugars have been pretty good so far so I’ll leave it.
Thanks again!!
