Boy am I overwhelmed. I spoke to the Animas rep I’ll be seeing on Tuesday. She told me I should look at the Animas infusion sets and decide which to order. She said that the cleo doesn’t stick as well as her son used it and switched and was much happier. She also said that the insets are spring loaded so it will be easier for insertion. I’ve been use to doing the dexcom but will enjoy a spring action going on.
My rep at Neighborhood diabetes told me I should try them then decide. But at my appt, I have to bring 2 infusion sets. So I am torn in what I should do. Should I wait till Tuesday then decide and order that night or should I just decide? I know I need to order the reservoir but the infusion sets are the confusing part.
Amy have you gotten your pump yet? My start kit came with 2 different sample infusion sets. Individual ones. But that was 2008 so it may have changed. I ruined them both trying to insert at the cde office. Spring loaded makes me flinch. I use the cleo90 myself and love them. I control the speed and still dont see the needle. Not very sticky myself though so i use skin tac and iv3000
I have three samples. Inset 30, Inset and the Cleo 90. I have had my pump since Friday :)…I’m discovering I forget its in my pocket! I’ve been carrying it around my house and my boyfriend’s house so I can get use to it in my pocket. My dexcom I know its there but not bothersome, the pump on the other hand, I forget its even there hehe.
Just torn in what I should do. The dexcom was easy, the receiver and sensors. The pump on the other hand, it was easy to decide which to go with. But deciding on the supplies, eh not so easy!
how long do they think it’s going to take to get the order to you? neighborhood diabetes is where i get my navigator sensors. they are pretty fast. but your first time with them and running the insurance claim… i mean why not try at least a couple of the samples before you decide? if your first order is a 90 day order, three months is a long time to live with something you hate
that is why I have the samples…to see which i do like. I did that so if I didnt like it, I dont have to stick with it. Neighborhood is quick. I got my pump 1 day earlier than I was told. I have seen videos, etc. So Its hard to see it visually…I remember the dexcom had a side view (there was a part of the video where you see the stomach and the sensor going in and the needle pulling out) so I wished the infusion sets were like that
having been in the position where i ordered the animas sets and ended up donating them to my CDE office because i hated them and then having to order cleo90’s, i’d say i wish i’d have waited and not let anyone pressure me into ordering.
what i did to choose sets was go on youtube and search for the names of the sets and then watch people who actually use them as they prepped and inserted.
well i have to admit the flinching is my needle phobia combined with the noise the animas spring loaded sets make. most people don’t flinch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jg0xdlpEfSA
I like the straight InSet with a 9mm cannula and 43 inch tubing. It takes three units to prime. Definitely get the IV prep and IV3000s for your Kermit Packs. They will help keep your cannula in regardless of your admin set.
I think that is the girl I commented on her ping with the stickers! That is neat. Now if I can see a video of the inset 30, then I’ll be able to see how it goes.
hrm, She told me my alcohol wipes I have will be fine as I have no issues with getting the adhesive to stick. I think once I get the supplies, I’ll start building the kerrmie packs you told me in the email
IVPrep/Skin Prep are a good thing to try right from the start… Hint for the Cleo 90… hold it down for at least 10 seconds not just the 5 in the manual… if you have problems with it staying stuck, you can either try prepping with ivprep/skin prep… and/or… go over the set with a warm/hot hairdryer (seems to activate the adhesive on the cleos, Just run a warm hairdryer and blow warm air over the cannula area a few times (before connecting of course)…
hhe the kermit pack is the supplies for my ping. My ping is named Kermit so Jay named the ping supply bag Kermit pack.
I did go through the links you gave me. It wasn’t helpful to me :(…I did see the one that Marti posted and that was indeed helpful. But that is the inset infusion set. And its the person who I commented on her ping being polka dotted too! Her video was very thorough!
Amy - one thing that my rep - and the diabetes educator in my doc’s office - did not explain to me is the fact that there are many options for your meter - I was pretty much just pointed in the direction of the Animas products. When I developed a kind of irritation or allergy to the teflon cannula (lots of itching), I finally discovered the truth! So, I got on the Internet and ordered free samples of many different types.
I use a steel cannula (so much nicer, for me anyway) and I settled on the Orbit Micro although I have others in stock. Look around and you’ll find what you like - or you may like several others.
Animas will try to set you up on autoship, but only for the stuff they carry. It depends on your insurance, but I was able to get with Liberty Medical and order what I wanted - I’ve even mixed and matched sets, especially when I wanted to try sets but couldn’t get free examples.
I want to try the orbit sets but my supplier doesn’t carry it and their websites says no samples available at this time…I have the inset and inset 3p…and cleo 90…I’m not sure what others to try out…I’m hoping my cde may have stuff in their office available in their supply room…I know they give me test strips, etc…so I hope for that…
I have used both Cleos and Animas infusions sets. I use an IV 3000 under both of them and have had no problems at all with them sticking. What I do is I order different brands of infusion sets, different lengths of tubing and different lengths canulas . My last order had 5 different boxes of infusion sets (I have to change every 2 days). I would say keep trying them till you find out which infusion set works best for you.
Call orbit and they will send you out samples. You will have to keep calling them because they are not very good about calling you back. I called them it took me about a week to get a hold of someone that handled the samples.
