Infusion Sets

I am hoping to recieve my animas one touch ping within the next week or two.

I was just wondering what sets people use and why they like them. I am kind of having trouble researching all the different sets and seeing how they all work. is there anywhere someone could get sample sets?

Id love to read about how everyones sets work and why they stick to the ones they use!

Thanks and take care

You can call Animas directly and ask for sample sets and they will send you a few. My favorite by far is the Sure-T or Contact Detach (the Animas version). I would suggest trying those.

I use both the Quick Set and the Silhouette with a Minimed pump. I don’t know if these sets are available for the Animas.

I started with the Quick Set bascially because I was told to. It inserts perpendicularly, straight into the skin, and therefore requires a pretty healthy layer of tissue, which I don’t really have. I used it on my abdomen, alternating left and right five times each, but began to run out of places for it that didn’t feel scarred. I tried using it on my flanks, but the canulus would bend and it was painful. It inserts with a plunger.

My CDE then turned me on to the Silhouette, which inserts at a 30 degree angle and worked great on my flanks. I insert it manually.

Now I rotate between the QuickSets and the Silhouettes giving me four sites to use and allowing three of them to heal for three weeks at a time.

It also seems to have improved my absorbtion rates.

As always, YMMV.

Enjoy the pump,

Terry

Started with the quicksets in december 08 (because that was what the company said was most popular among pump users.) After having some issues with the inserter (adhesive getting stuck inside inserter and harpooning me at an angle) as well as kinking (inserter or no) and learning my lesson on testing frequently after set changes I got MM to send me some Sure-T samples. No inserter and no way the metal cannula can kink, yet comfy. Love 'em.

i’d go with the Inset II, easy to insert, all in one unit.

I have now tried the sills–not good for me; the soft set (not for me) and the quick sets–I have come full circle back to the quick sets. I have some sure t’s to try–but not brave enough to do a manual insertion–needle phobe

The sils kinked cannulas worse than the quick set ever thought of, the soft sets just seem to snag on everything…and no improvement over the quicksets–and I like the quickset inserter better.

Sorry to hear abt. the needle prob. After trying the Sure-T’s I’d force my husband to insert them at gunpoint(kidding) if I couldnt do it myself…lol. On second thought…that is more terrifying than self inserting. I’m happy for all of you who happily enjoy quicksets…though. Seems like everyone has to experiment to find their best liked set. Here’s to happy inserting!
