So after calling in a few times today, first to confirm that NEW PDM's ARE in stock (as if I was a brand new customer)
Second I called inquiring about the Warranty issue...and they basically shrugged it off reading off their script about insurance...
Last few times , trying to get someone different, I basically have been blacklisted...and they will NOT talk to me at all
This last person insisted there are NO pdm's in stock...funny how that changed in a matter of minutes once they find out im an existing customer.
In the process of hand writing a letter to the president of Insulet, meanwhile my remaining month of warranty will slip by, getting insulet another "sale" of their new system.
To be honest, you seem so dissatisfied with Insulet; why don't you stop being a customer if you're that unhappy? I certainly would. By the way, the last PDM upgrade they did a few years ago, I'm pretty sure everyone got the new PDM fairly quickly, regardless of warranty status.
If I remember correctly the upgrade last time was handled differently. We were still in warranty and as such could opt to upgrade with a discounted price for the new PDM for a limited amount of time. So I think maybe the demand was more spread out and perhaps easier to manage?
The PDM warranty is 4 years. So if you're past that, why wouldn't your insurance cover a new PDM? Most carriers usually do so even for the much more expensive tubed pumps.
My situation is...this PDM didn't come from my current insurance company.
Current insurance (United) doesn't have a relationship with Insulet..so they try to get you to use Edgepark...which would require me to satisfy the $1000 deductible
I get my pods through Medco..at $180 for 3 months worth...
So basically..im on the hook for $1000 if the new PDM doesn't come in the next month....
Well, to be fair the new PDM most likely won't be $1000. IIRC the current one was about $400. But still, that's the nature of your coverage plan, not a general problem with Insulet. Have you tried contacting a local rep? Mine is very helpful and understanding.
But that is the point of your DME Medical insurance... .What is the point of paying the premium if you never put anything towards that deductible to get the insurance DME coverage to kick in? Perhaps during your re enrollment period ask to change to a lower deductible plan.
Do you know what your coverage level is at after the deductible is satisfied? What about your Out of Pocket Maximum? Perhaps this is the year you take the hit and use your DME benefit and then go back to Medco next year... you might just meet your Out of Pocket at be covered at 100% for a few months late in the year.
Another option like Eric says is to go with another pump.... most of them offer a $300- 500 trade in credit to return your PDM and that discount can go to your balance.
I dont get my pods through edgepark either, cause if you add it up..180 times 4 isn't $1000. SO I never satisfy any of my deductible I dont have any option to switch insurance..its one size fits all
The best I have found is a PDM for $660 still slimy of insulet to try to do this to people with cases like mine. They Have PDMS in stock..send one and never hear from me again..simple enough...right?
We at Insulet feel a deep sense of loyalty to all of you who are current users of the OmniPod. The OmniPod, and especially the new OmniPod, wouldn’t be what it is today without your loyal support along the way.
I thought it was the new pods that were in short supply due to manufacturing snafus. So even if they had the new PDMs, they wouldn't do anyone any good yet until the get a sufficient supply of pods.
yes but in Agswin04 case, he will be out of warranty very soon, so why not just send him his new PDM, so he does not get passed over for warranty. it isn`t really fair... at least I don`t think it`s fair at all.
I hope when the new PDM and pods come to canada it is a smoother roll over.
I can appreciate Agswin04's situation with his pdm running out of warranty in this in-between time and would also be feeling the pressure if I were in his shoes.
But where does/should Insulet draw the line? What about the KWD who feels that the current pod is too big? What about the PWD who has been a loyal customer for over X years? What about the person who can't see the current canula and wants a blue one? Insulet will need to make a determination of when and how. So far they've said "don't call us; we'll call you...when it's your turn".
Maybe we should just inventory everyone's stock and give it to those who have the least remaining supplies? Or those who have the most? Or people with middle names that include a "q"? These are just as arbitrary as Insulet giving a new system to the squeaky wheel.
Yeah this afternoon I called the "corporate" number..and spoke to someone else who's supposed to call me back within 24 hrs. This one actually appeared to understand the problem....we shall see
I guess im curious how they even planned to start the transition...they gotta start somewhere with some kind of list...right?
