I am wondering what insulin other people use in their Omnipod? I went from Humalog when I was on MDI to Novolog when I switched to the Omnipod. It might be just my imagination, but my blood glucose control does not seem to be as good with Novolog as it was with Humalog. Any comments are appreciated.
I was using Novolog for a while, but went back to humalog. It took a little too long to peak for me, I was getting some pretty good post-meal spikes
Those post meal spikes are exactly what is happening to me. I weigh my food, use a smaller size plate to help with portion control, and even bolus ten minutes before the meal. Very frustrating.
I use apridra. My doctor told me that it works faster, But I think Im not up with watching if thats true or not. But I did go from a 9.1 A1C to a 6.5 dont know if that was help from the insulin or just because I have tighter control using the pod.
I use Humalog. I was told by my Omnipod trainer that some people need higher basal rates on the pod then they used on their pump. I have not found that to be true, but that could be why you are running higher.
I was first started on the Novalog, but didn’t get as good a control as the doc thought I should and he switched me to Humalog. Then we went back to the Novalog to see if it did make a difference and it does for me. My doc told me is is supposed to be the same but works a little different for different people. So we stayed with the Humalog.
Consider Symlin. It will solve that problem.
My endocrinologist just recently recommended I start on Symlin. I find that it helps a great deal except when I guess at the carb content of something I am eating as when we eat in a restaurant.
I am using Humalog…it didn’t occur to me to wonder why, other than I was using Humalog for my MDI’s.
