Anyone else have days/weeks of high blood sugars and insulin resistance. I’ve struggled for a few weeks- usually it’s right around my monthly cycle, but this time the high bs lasted through my cycle and did NOT come down. I kept hanging in there setting temp basals and blousing through it. I was about to give up hope and change my settings (or talk to my endo about it- I have a dr. apt. next Tues) and lo and behold it finally came down!!! All I can think is I’ve had some stress and then a nasty cold/congestion thing. It’s just so crazy!!! WHY???
Whenever I get a bad cold or flu I tend to get sustained high blood sugars while I’m sick, but I don’t really know if it’s insulin resistance. I had the stomach flu Tuesday into Wednesday and then Thursday and Friday(today) I’ve had a hard time getting my bs under 200. I keep having to correct. Compared to the 2 weeks prior to being sick when I didn’t have a bs above 160. If the high bs goes on for a week or more I usually change my basals instead of constantly correcting. I keep a log of the change so I can go back to my regular settings when I start seeing low bs’s.
Good points. I definitely need to take charge more of my own basal rates. I get lazy though and would rather have my endo and CDE do it. I can do it. Keeping a log is a good idea.
My CDE and Endo generally change my settings in a percentage of my current settings. That helped me feel more confident in doing myself. When I get sick I usually start by increasing my basals by 5%. The percentages don’t usually match with an exact option on the pump so I err on the side of caution and keep a list of the changes and dates that I made them. It’s been working for me, good luck.
