The 2013 Joslin Medalist meeting was held on May 11. There were more than 150 medalists present at the meeting. Every medalist has been type 1 for 50 years, or more. I was not able to attend because my wife was ill. She is well now. The link below connects to a video on Youtube. Medalists speaking at the meeting are shown. One medalist received the first ever 80 year medal. See him at the beginning of the video.
Nice, Richard; thanks for sharing the video! I'm sorry you weren't able to make it, but glad your wife is feeling better. You guys give everyone so much hope!
WOW Richard, thanks for posting this, I have less than 4 years to go for my 50th. hope to see you there. Tom should be getting his 75 the same year.
I wish I could have been there. We will be going to the international meeting in Florida where the type 1 children and their families meet every year. Type 1 diabetics of all ages are invited, but the emphasis is on the T1 kids. It takes place in Orlando, and since Disney is nearby that makes it even more appealing to the kids.
Marie, is your diagnosis date prior to May? If so, you could attend the medalist meeting in 2017 (it is held every two years).
Yes I think Tom gets his 75 year medal in 2017, or 2018?

eek, that is about a month before my birthday and reminds me I'll be 50 soon!! Which I suppose is a "win" given that I was skeptical I'd last until 40 when I was younger and wilder but still, that's an eek for me!
Those folks are amazing. I'd add that a lot of them look to be in really good shape considering their age cohorts, much less fighting with a ghastly, chronic disease!! Perhaps there's some benefit?
